The Bank of Namibia hosted its flagship Payments Thought Leadership Event under the theme “Inclusive Payments, Shared Prosperity: Charting the Next Era.”
At the centre of the discussions was a guiding question: How can inclusive and resilient payment systems foster prosperity?
The event highlighted how the future of payments is being shaped not only by rapid technological breakthroughs but also by evolving human behaviour. It called for an inclusive vision one that anchors shared prosperity in everyday financial choices. Industry leaders from regulators to fintechs, telcos, insurers, non-banks and banks explored digital payment innovations and the next wave of transformation.
In her keynote, the Minister of Information, Communication and Technology, Hon. Emma Theofelus, emphasised the role of infrastructure, legal certainty and cybersecurity as enablers of digital inclusion. Speaking at the same occasion, Deputy Governor Leonie Dunn described payments as the digital bridge of trust and outlined the advances made in modernising payment systems.
The fireside dialogues explored how resilient systems can build trust by bridging borders through more efficient cross-border payments, understanding human behaviour in digital payments adoption, and building on real-time innovation to maximise social benefit while preparing for the next wave.
