While the UK gov was arguing in Parliament that allegations of civilian death and injury in #Iraq and #Afghanistan were ‘vexatious’, all the time they were quietly settling compensation claims from civilians who had suffered appalling harm.

A ceasefire in name only.
I spoke to Al Jazeera on the anniversary of the #Gaza ceasefire agreement and just 3 days after the anniversary of the 7 Oct attacks.

This is the 2nd high profile case for the Met war crimes team, after a Syrian colonel was charged earlier this year.
Things are speeding up.

The U.S. attacks on an Iranian girls’ school and sports centre reveal an evident failure to implement the precautionary obligation. But are they also war crimes? ⬇️
I have analyzed several of the legal issues raised in Minab and Lamerd around feasibility of precautions, AI-enabled warfare and civilian harm in a piece I wrote for @opiniojuris here: opiniojuris.org/2026/09/18/u… 1/4
The failure to register civilian harm “essentially means that the UK is incapable of understanding the actual harm its military actions cause to civilians, and therefore incapable of effectively mitigating it,” said Mae Thompson of @CeasefireCentre

Sterk draadje dat uitlegt waarom de Israëlische documentaire NAZA "doordringt tot de kern van de reden waarom de aanvallen op Gaza schendingen van het oorlogsrecht vormen en tevens oorlogsmisdaden zijn".
The controversies over NAZA on here largely miss what is important about the film.
NAZA goes to the heart of why attacks on Gaza are violations of the laws of war and also constitute war crimes.

Good 🧵. Disproportionate attacks are just as illegal, and potentially just as criminal, as attacks exclusively directed at civilians.
That said, the film also reportedly describes IDF snipers shooting civilians waiting for food or entering 'elimination zones.'

This is an essential element of the legal case against IDF conduct, complementing the detailed and irrefutable evidence of actual civilian harm that Palestinian journalists have worked against the odds (& in many cases died) to provide.

For an insight, look up the documentaries by Palestinian film-makers shown at the Venice festival: Conversation With The Sea by Muayad Alayan, and Citizen Osama by Ahmed Hassouna.

Hegseth has gutted the Pentagon's framework for minimizing civilian harm. However, progress by other defence departments has not and need not come to an end. Ceasefire's Mae Thompson tells @propublica
New: As delegates gather at NATO headquarters to discuss reducing civilian harm during combat, the Trump administration's absence from a group the U.S. co-founded is being dubbed "humiliating" and “dangerous” by current and former officials. propub.li/4gIue8q
Advocates have framed the Pentagon’s rollback as an opportunity for the U.K. to step into a leadership role, said Ceasefire's @mae_thomps

This is abject from Reform. I’m a veteran with 32 years service to my country. At no point did I think I should be above the law. The armed forces are there to defend our society, and our freedom is underpinned by the rule of law and order.
According to this, "Every commander rebuffed the idea" of Hegseth's to slash the Civilian Harm Mitgation and Response Action Plan. Following the civilian death toll in Iran, it may now be partly reinstated. propublica.org/article/hegse…
How genocide is arranged:
Ratko Mladic 12-7-95: “I want absolute cooperation from the civilian population... There is no need for your people to get killed, your husband, your brothers or your neighbours. …you can either survive or disappear.” (Video at 4.30)
But Mladic...

He died earlier today in prison in The Hague, serving a life sentence for genocide.
