@andrewmarr finding @bbclaurak report from Brussels utterly enthralling obviously...
A thought provoking piece of analysis from @gideonrachman here. Wither or whither deterrence?: giftarticle.ft.com/giftartic…

I love talking our country down
While offering no solutions
Because I’m a grifting gobshite
Who likes to incite unrest
Small boat crossings are down 44%
Deportations are the highest in 10 years
Immigration is 82% lower
But who needs facts
When you can make up lies
Our nation is being invaded.
Our young talent and our job creators are leaving.
Our allies are now fleeing.
Our energy prices are soaring.
Our prisons and courts are a mess.
Our dignity is being stripped away.
Our social contract has been torn apart.
Our history and culture are increasingly undermined.
But our resolve must still remain.
This may be a broken Britain. But it’s a broken Britain we can fix.
Indeed we must fix it. But our time is running out.
We don’t have the luxury to be divided.
We owe it to those who came before us and who gave their lives for this great country.
We must come together, under one leadership and one banner and speak with one voice, loudly and united:
Britain is broken. Britain needs Reform.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

The de facto organiser of the Patriot Platform in the absence of Vasco Da Gammon is apparently Billy Cooper (below). In 2018 Brighton County Court found a claim by Billy Cooper, a builder from Carshalton, Surrey, to be “fundamentally dishonest.” He had sought about £98,000 from Aviva over a 2013 car accident, saying he could not work in construction and was unsteady on his feet. Social media showed him roofing, walking and cycling. The claim was thrown out and he was ordered to pay Aviva’s costs, more than £13,000. A proven liar and grifter, should fit right into Daniel Thomas’s clown shoes. 🤡

Waited since I was 7 years old to see the Bayeux Tapestry. Got in an hour-long online queue to spend £50 on tickets. Got there ahead of time. Stood in a queue for 20 minutes. Then was told halfway through the queue that the gallery was closing.
The @britishmuseum stinks 😭

My brother Kris would have been 53 today. He was a Royal Navy fighter pilot, flying the FA2 Sea Harrier from our aircraft carriers and then the Harrier GR9. He flew 160 missions in Afghanistan. Lieutenant Commander Kris Ward.
In November 2018 he took the decision to end his own life soon after his 45th birthday.
No matter how well you think your friends and family are doing, dig a little deeper. Be there for them. They may need your help. When it’s too late it’s too late.

There’s a certain irony in people raging against the “surveillance state” while happily buying a cheap Chinese EV packed with cameras, microphones, GPS and a permanent data connection to the manufacturer. I suppose they aren’t too bothered as long as it not our state.

I was told by an impeccable source that Theresa May appointed Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary and David Davis as Brexit Secretary, specifically because they had championed the Leave campaign. Once in a position to deliver Brexit they realised promises couldn't be honoured.
The original sin of Brexit was not allowing Vote Leave to own the project after victory.
In wrestling power from the people who won the referendum, insane internal machinations within the Parliamentary Conservative Party prevented those who campaigned for the outcome from delivering that outcome.
From the start the whole project was decapitated.
And so here we are now, ten years on, having repealed precious little EU law, pursuing no supply side reform, indeed still building a £125m bat tunnel in order that HS2 abide by the retained EU Habitats Directive.
For the best part of a decade the political class stole the victory from the people.
And now they have the temerity to say their own failure is actually the fault of the people for wanting an independent country.

Replying to @Nigel_Farage
@Nigel_Farage has deleted this post from Sunday.
Don’t suppose he’d like to be reminded of it; oh well.
Nigel Farage promised Durham would be a marker for how Reform would Govern.
Yesterday he admitted he didn’t know the ins and outs of Durham & hadn’t even visited it.
There is a pattern emerging of lack of knowledge, control & responsibility from Farage and Reform.

Just remembered the Premier League let Man Utd claim an exceptional £40m Covid allowance. Coincidentally, the exact buffer they needed to stay under the £105m PSR loss limit 🤔
That one single claim was larger than the allowances of the other 19 clubs combined.
Fair play 👍🏽

Getting a lot of Manchester United fans in the mentions today lecturing about money, so here's a quick history lesson.
Albert Quixall 1958, British record. Denis Law 1962, British record. Gordon McQueen 1978, British record. Bryan Robson 1981, British record, two years after the first ever £1m transfer in this country. Pallister 1989, record fee for a defender. Keane 1993, British record. Andy Cole 1995, British record, bought off US in January to stop us winning the league. Van Nistelrooy AND Veron in 2001, two British records in one year. Ferdinand 2002, world record for a defender. Di Maria 2014, British record. Pogba 2016, world record on the entire planet. Maguire 2019, world record for a defender AGAIN.
For sixty years, when United wanted a player, the price went up for everyone else. They've broken the British transfer record more than any club in history.
Since Ferguson left: £1.43 BILLION spent. Zero titles. Net debt over a billion dollars, and their owners' takeover model has since been banned by the Premier League for loading debt onto clubs.
Lads, Man city have broke the rules, but lets not pretend you're not the moral guardians of football finance. 🖤🤍

“Sure, we *could* have multiple dispersed air stations, naval ports, munitions caches, etc. But don’t you know how much more *efficient* it is to just have a couple of each, managed by a contractor that just orders a bit of stuff when we need it?”
There is no capability without capacity. We are paying the price for decades of “consolidation” and “just-in-time” deliveries that grew out of the experience of sequenced wars fought against inferior militaries. Need to go back to DIB basics: speed&scale.
