ALT is the population of the administrative city of Paris a good basis on which to compare the overall population of Paris with the population of other global cities? No, using only the administrative city of Paris (Ville de Paris) is a poor basis for comparing its population with other global cities. Why Administrative Limits Fail • Fixed Borders: The official city limits of Paris (intra muros) have not changed for over 160 years (stretching across just 105 square kilometres), unlike cities like London or New York that absorbed surrounding suburbs. • Artificial Smallness: The administrative city houses only about 2.1 million people, making Paris look deceptively small. • Exclusion of Suburbs: It completely cuts off the continuous, built-up urban area that spills past the Périphérique (ring road).

ALT Dumbbell chart comparing the percentage of articles using quasi-experimental (QE, red) and Big Five (dark blue) research designs across 15 criminology journals. Big Five percentages are higher in almost every journal. The largest difference is in the Journal of Experimental Criminology (34% Big Five versus 9% QE), followed by the Journal of Quantitative Criminology (10% versus 7%) and Criminology and Public Policy (8% versus 5%). In most other journals, both percentages are below 5%, with differences generally under 3 percentage points. The British Journal of Criminology and Legal and Criminological Psychology have approximately 0% for both categories.

ALT Two charts showing UK fuel duty from 1989 to 2025. Cash duty rates for petrol and diesel rose from about 18p per litre in 1989 to around 58p by 2011, remained unchanged until 2022, then fell to about 53p. Adjusted for inflation, petrol duty peaked at over 90p per litre in 2025 prices around 2000, before generally declining, with a sharp fall after 2022 to about 53p in 2025. The chart notes that fuel duty is at its lowest cash level since March 2009 and lowest real level since March 1993.

ALT "My understanding of English is improving daily," a Latin-American academic is quoted in one of Arday's papers. "Sometimes I struggle to articulate clearly and accurately what I would like to say to the healthcare professionals provided at university." There was just one issue. Three years prior, he had attributed the same quote to an Asian female undergraduate. It is one of numerous issues identified with his papers.

ALT Map of Greater London showing the most common non-English language spoken in each borough, based on the 2021 Census. English is the most common language everywhere, so the map displays the second most common language. Distinct colours indicate different languages. Romanian dominates much of outer north-east and east London, including Barnet, Harrow, Waltham Forest, Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Bexley. Turkish is most common in Enfield, Haringey and Hackney. Spanish is most common in several central and south-west boroughs, including Islington, Wandsworth, Lambeth, Lewisham, Richmond, Southwark and the City of London. Panjabi is most common in Hillingdon, Ealing and Hounslow. Bengali is most common in Tower Hamlets and Newham. Other boroughs show French (Camden, Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea), Gujarati (Brent), Arabic (Westminster), Nepali (Greenwich), Polish (Merton and Croydon), Portuguese (Bromley) and Tamil (Kingston and Sutton).

ALT There has been criticism that the word 'brainstorming' is offensive to people with epilepsy. Epilepsy Society recently conducted a small survey among people with the condition and the overwhelming response was that the term is not offensive when used in its correct context, defining a session amassing spontaneous ideas as potential solutions to a problem.
