Shandro is either misinformed or lying. We know that @LegalAidAlberta is tracking the rejections too. LAA reaches out directly to counsel saying 'this certificate has been rejected 12 times, can you take it?'. Counsel are telling them no until @shandro takes meaningful action.

The @AlbertaCTLA & @CDLACalgary have tracked some numbers. Over 3000 certificate rejections from the job action. 750+ are level 2 or higher, which incl. most violent & sex offences. The rejections are creating significant stress on the justice system. Delays lead to stays!

Even as domestic violence surges during the holiday season, @Shandro denies the existing backlogs clogging our courts & number of victims awaiting justice. Government action is long overdue. Sign the petition to demand justice for Albertans: bit.ly/3zNN3B5 #ABleg

The retweeted article shows how society benefits from competent defence counsel. The victim in this case did not have to testify. The offender received excellent representation. Court time is not wasted, and resources are saved. LA funding saves money. @AlbertaCTLA @CDLACalgary

Question for you, @LegalAidAlberta and CEO Panusa: Can you explain why NONE of your news releases discuss the failure of the @UCPCaucus, Minister @shandro, or @ABDanielleSmith to abide by the 2019 Governance Agreement?
"Roster lawyers are integral to LAA. They are our closest partners. Since 1973, we’ve protected the legal rights of people in large cities, small towns and those off the grid — that’s nearly 50 years of providing access to justice for Albertans." calgaryherald.com/opinion/co…

Parents and victims risk having their family and criminal matters tossed out of court because of major delays and backlogs. But, @shandro denies the impact his lack of funding for legal aid has had. Retweet and tag @shandro to advocate for justice bit.ly/3ELteNV
Just think of all the law abiding citizens who will get charged and not be able to get a lawyer because criminal defence lawyers are not being heard and Legal Aid is not being fixed. @CDLACalgary @shandro @ABDanielleSmith
The proposed amendments to Bill C-21 expand the number of banned firearms, criminalizing hundreds of thousands of law-abiding firearms owners. Alberta will take action. Please see our official statement: alberta.ca/release.cfm?xID=8…

The gov't refused to work with defence counsel to avoid this. Wishful thinking can't make the system function without defence counsel. Time for @ABDanielleSmith to deal w/this crisis: tell @shandro to stop picking stupid fights w/essential services.
calgary.citynews.ca/2022/11/… Defence lawyer Kim Arial says the "situation in courts isn’t good, and it’s only getting worse for vulnerable Albertans." An invitation to @shandro and @ABDanielleSmith : "come on down to the courtroom in Calgary and see what’s actually happening."

When @ABDanielleSmith, @shandro, and the public are being told by @LegalAidAlberta and CEO Panusa that all is well, it’s understandable that they are doing nothing. Get the truth from the front lines then do the necessary thing.

One of Canada's leading criminal law jurists pulling no punches about what is at stake when legal aid is not properly funded. Here's hoping @ABDanielleSmith & @shandro are listening! @RachelNotley @MLAIrfanSabir @CDLACalgary @AlbertaCTLA
In speech accepting the George Arthur Martin medal, Justice David Watt is recognizing the problems with legal aid funding, suggesting that the fairness of trials is at stake. People denied assistance because thresholds too high; defence counsel underfunded. Is Alberta listening?

Inaction from the Alberta Government continues to cause backlogs and delays. This week, more cases are delayed yet the GOA claims no instances of family or criminal services are being affected due to insufficient funding. But they are @shandro@RachelNotley @ABDanielleSmith #ableg
Thankful that Justice Critic @MLAIrfanSabir has heard and understood our concerns since the beginning. Hopeful that @shandro will soon appreciate just how dire the situation is.

See, @ABDanielleSmith & @shandro? You cannot robustly fund Crown and police without also properly funding the defence. Every day you ignore this crisis puts more criminal cases at risk. Fund legal aid so we can get back to work! @RachelNotley @MLAIrfanSabir

I’m sitting in my apartment on a Sunday afternoon wondering why @shandro and @ABDanielleSmith continue to allow impoverished Albertans to languish in the legal system. It really seems like they don’t care about Alberta’s poor or Albertan tax dollars. @CDLACalgary @AlbertaCTLA

Hi Deborah, we also conducted similar research in AB in 2020-21 which concluded that based on the value of saved court time alone, even a modest additional increases in legal aid funding would result in a net return to the government: cba-alberta.org/News-Media/N…

"We’d urge the govt of Alberta to increase legal aid funding so that eligibility guidelines can be based upon the actual ability of Albertans to pay, and ensure competitive tariff rates, which will permit lawyers to continue to take legal aid work."#ableg cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/l…

To be clear, I am saying Minister @shandro has been flaccid, "lacking force or effectiveness", on this issue. The other definition of flaccid, "(of part of the body) soft and hanging loosely or limply", is none of my business. nationalpost.com/pmn/news-pm…

How about sharing that prosperity with Albertans who can't afford a family or criminal lawyer and need @LegalAidAlberta to be properly funded so they can easily get a good lawyer on Legal Aid? #accesstojustice @shandro @AlbertaCTLA @CDLACalgary
