Populists are not ideological. Separatists and TBA are not conservatives.
Mitch Sylvestre becoming leader of the B.C. Greens was not the plot twist I was prepared for, today.

“Voting to leave — even just voting in favour of maybe voting later to leave — is not sending a message to Ottawa. “It’s sending a message to Washington. “The message is this: Canada is weak, regionally divided, and can be turned on itself for America’s benefit. Ultimately, that message hurts all of us, including Albertans.” From @jengerson: readtheline.ca/p/jen-gerson-…

Jeff Rath posted this about me but I cannot respond because he blocked me a long time ago after I challenged him to door-knocking the most UCP riding in all of Calgary instead of doing town halls with the same 400 people in rural area. I’m not an Independence supporter but if you are, can you not see that this man has no intention of actually trying to win the vote or even increased support? He’s a grifter who wants money and attention. Right now he’s focussed on trying to take down Danielle Smith. Why? Because he needs somebody to blame for the fact that the movement that he was largely in charge of is not popular. And Jeff does not take responsibility so he’s going to blame Smith for apparently not bending over backwards to help them and endorse them. These guys who couldn’t organize a local school board campaign are going to tell Danielle Smith that she’s running the province wrong. She let them have their vote, she even modified the question when a judge shut down the original one so that it would still be on the ballot in someway, but that’s not good enough apparently. Avoid people who are upset after largely getting what they want. They can whine all day that they’re mad that the vote isn’t binding, but that’s not relevant considering that they aren’t even close to 50% of the vote and in fact some surveys show having it not be binding increases the support for Independence by a few points.

What is life really like for Ukrainian newcomers who came to Alberta since 2022? Many have now been here for nearly four years. They are our neighbours, coworkers, business owners, volunteers, parents and friends. They work, pay taxes and contribute to the communities they now call home. In this interview, these folks share their experiences of building a new life in Alberta: the challenges they’ve faced, the communities they’ve joined, and the hopes they have for the future. Their voices deserve to be heard.

Sad news about the death of the great prairie artist David Thauberger (1926-2026.) He was the painter of our lived environment, combining his skill as a brilliant hyper realist painter with a deep artistic vision of prairie life and culture. Anyone who grew up on the Canadian prairies can feel a connection with his depictions of the archetypes that surrounded us: the grain elevators, Churches, small businesses, and modest homes. While human figures don’t appear in his paintings, somehow their lives do, reflected in what they built in an often hostile environment. One of my proudest possessions is his painting “Silent Night,” an homage to the magnificent onion domed Byzantine Churches that dot the landscape of the Northern Prairies. In it he depicts the beautiful ritual culture brought to Canada by Ukrainian pioneers, and associates it with the mystical stillness of a starlit, cold Christmas Eve on the prairies. Thank-you, David, for a life spent depicting the austere beauty and dignity of life on the Canadian prairies. Eternal rest grant unto him, and may light perpetual shine upon him. 🙏

Message to patriots who think this is done & dusted. It's not. Imagine 40% turnout. That's what we had for the standalone equalization referendum in 2022. The 10% or so of the electorate who are hard core separatists will crawl over broken glass to vote. Not hard to imagine another 10% who are frustrated federalists showing up to cast a "send a message" vote. Then you've suddenly got 20% of the electorate winning, and pushing us into wood chipper for the next year. Don't let it happen. Get involved in @VotetoStayAB or another group that supports a strong Alberta within Canada. And don't take for granted the overwhelming support for national unity. It only matters if the silent super majority show up to vote.
BREAKING: One of the largest publicly released polls on Alberta's Oct. 19 referendum – conducted by Innovative Research Group – is in. 🚨 The separatists are losing in every region of Alberta. 📊 Proud Albertans and patriotic Canadians have the numbers to win and win big. But polls don't decide referendums – people do. 🙋‍♀️ The separatists will show up on Oct. 19. We need to do the same. Pledge your vote at VotetoStay.ca and help us defeat separatism for a generation! 🗳️ #abpoli #cdnpoli #votetostay

A shout-out to Minister @tanya_fir, who might just be Calgary's hardest working MLA. I don't know if anyone attends more community events than she does. I've run into her everywhere, from major festivals to small neighbourhood gatherings. She's a strong champion for the arts and keeps delivering for Calgary.

It's time to lead, not leave. This is our country too, and Albertans should be at the table shaping our future, not leaving it to the elites who spent the last decade trying to remake Canada without us.

Cicero spent his life warning against factionalism.
For all our federalist friends who insist we must stay in the flawed and toxic relationship within Confederation I quote the great philosopher Cicero: "Any man can make mistakes, but only an idiot persists in his error." Let's not risk our children's futures by making promises that can only be fulfilled by others (re: the rest of Canada who has consistently shown they don't want to change anything of substance ). @jkenney @KenBoessenkool @shandro @LeelaAheer

As if to prove the point, at 58:40 of the debate between @jkenney and @ikwilson, Keith says this referendum will likely result in splitting the UCP and the NDP winning the next election. An NDP government doesn’t matter to separatists, because they have an opportunity and this is “existential” for separatists. youtu.be/emEKa-pL7pE?t=3516&…
There is nothing remotely conservative about separatism. Separatism is not conservative. This is not a partisan question.
