Our paper on how the whole #ectoderm maintains #pluripotency and enables the exceptional #NeuralCrest stem cell potential is published! Very proud of the whole team and a shout out for the first author @pajanoja for pure excellence😘! #devbio 🐣 nature.com/articles/s41467-0…
Tune in on Thursday!
Enjoyed yesterday’s ‘From preprint to publication’ webinar featuring @RogerPocockMelb
Next week, @EstermannMartin will talk to Laura Kerosuo about her work on neural crest stem cell potential - work that was preLighted by Andrew Montequin.

Adameyko lab is hiring! We search for an experimentalist postdoc (preferably with a bit of computational skills) to work with us on the enigma of craniofacial development. The major project is focused on mechanisms scaling up the skull and introducing facial individuality.
Our paper that challenges #gastrulation by showing #pluripotency signature in the entire #ectoderm as bases for #neuralcrest stem cell potential formation was chosen to the editor's highlights at @NatureComms / stem cells. Very proud of the whole team!

A nice summary of our new paper @NatureComms explaining a paradigm shifting finding about #gastrulation: the #ectoderm does not lose the pluripotency signature, which enables maintenance of the exceptionally high stemness of #neuralcrest @NIDCR
Hieno tiivistelmä uudesta työstämme @NatureComms: osoitamne miten hermostopiena saavuttaa poikkeuksellisen kantasolumaisuutensa. Alkio ei menetäkään monikykyisyyttään gastrulaatiossa, mikä mahdollistaa kasvojen, lisämunuisen ja monien kehon kudosten kehityksen. Kiitos @pajanoja
Tutkijat ovat saaneet uutta tietoa alkionkehityksen tärkeimmästä varhaisvaiheesta. Tutkimustulokset auttavat ymmärtämään monia synnynnäisiä kehityshäiriöitä paremmin. @KerosuoLab @helsinkiuni @NIH

Introducing the lab! Thank you @the_Node! Check out who we are and how we study #neuralcrest. Let me know if you’re interested in joining us @NIDCR @NIH Bethesda campus in Washington DC
Lab meeting with the Kerosuo Lab
Meet the members of the @KerosuoLab @NIDCR. The lab studies early neural crest development and the pathology behind neural crest derived diseases:

Interesting!! Check out the new paper from the Theneveau lab!
#EMT is an early event in cell dissemination from epithelial tissues. @EricTheveneau &co show that in frog embryos the #metalloproteinase MMP28 is produced by placodes & acts inside the nucleus of neighboring neural crest cells to trigger EMT #PLOSBiology plos.io/3snRL7F
Check out our work @NatureComms! A result of an enjoyable and fruitful multidisciplinary @NIDCR collaboration with the Werner lab @werner_achim revealing how a @ubiquitin based post- translational mechanism orchestrates early cranial ectodermal patterning. 🐣#devbio #NeuralCrest
When #ubiquitin meets🐣 @NIDCR: check out our inspiring collaboration with @kerosuoLab, revealing how early brain, craniofacial and skin development are coordinated by a monoubiquitylation-based switch. Now out @NatureComms at rdcu.be/dhN90 Thank you to the team!
Very proud of my student @jennhsin at her first conference and also happy for seeing her fully enjoy it!! #anr2023. We received a lot to digest and got to enjoy Amsterdam #neuroblastoma #neuralcrest
Learned so much at #anr2023 last week, it was really an amazing conference. Also got to present a poster at my first big scientific conference- got great feedback/ideas so thank you to everyone who stopped by!
Introducing the world of research to the next generation on #BringYourKidsToWorkDay was a success! Who has a faster heartbeat, you or the #ChickEmbryo? @NIDCR
Check out the new preLights featuring Ceren’s @pajanoja work! Thank you Andrew @RefriedEctoderm for highlighting our research 🙏🙏 #NeuralCrest #pluripotency
When does the embryo finally lose #pluripotency?
@pajanoja and team at the @KerosuoLab identify a transcriptional signature of pluripotency that is maintained throughout #neurulation in the #ectoderm.

ALT Yellow highlights maintenance of stemness from gastrula stage in the entire ectoderm until end of neurulation when pluripotency is detected only in the dorsal neural tube. Similarly, pan-ectodermal stem cells co-express pluripotency genes together with the respective non-neural ectoderm and neural markers AP2A and Sox2 (pink).

Checkout our Preprint in Research Square: ”Maintenance of Pluripotency in the Entire Ectoderm Enables Neural Crest Formation.” Very proud of @pajanoja and the whole @KerosuoLab team for their hard work, enthusiasm and endurance. researchsquare.com/article/r… #NeuralCrest 👇🏼1/7
Morpholino-mediated knockdown of individual pluripotency genes shows defects in “common stem cell regulation” whereas no signs of the pluripotency genes promoting a specific neural crest future lineage were detected, suggesting a lineage-independent role in neural crest formation
