As they say, some professional news to share. It’s my honor to return to government service in this period of sobering consequence for our nation. Many thanks to all in my network who supported and counseled me through this decision. tinyurl.com/yc9mu4kt

“I’m heartened to learn of @RadioFreeAsia contributor Shin Daewe's release. Journalists like Shin pursue truth and hold officials accountable even under dire threat. Press freedom won today, and I'll keep advocating for journalists imprisoned for their work.” -@SenatorShaheen
"I'm proud to stand with unjustly imprisoned @RadioFreeAsia contributor and former @DVB_English reporter, Shin Daewe. Shin's award-winning documentaries highlight the impacts of climate change and armed conflict in Burma." -@SenatorShaheen

Women in the military have been removed from the Department of Defense and Arlington Memorial Cemetery's websites. Read from Senior Fellow @robinsonL100 on why this is happening and how it can be reversed.

And the weak suffer what they must. Putin previews a return to a world order Americans fought and died to defeat.

With due respect to the gravity of the Signal issue, we must also remember the policy challenge the Houthis present. Read Eitan’s piece in @ForeignPolicy. 👇
.@CNASdc senior adjunct fellow Eitan Danon has written a piece for @ForeignPolicy on the challenge of Yemen and the Houthis that could not be more timely:
U.S. Airstrikes Alone Can’t Dislodge the Houthis

"Russia’s shared interests with Iran make it an unsuitable mediator and will surely work to undermine America’s interests in the Middle East and those of America’s partners and allies."

The charge for the United States is to deter war with China without capitulation and to compete effectively across all the areas of soft power. The United States has an array of tools to do this, including humanitarian aid, development assistance, support for democracy abroad, and strategic communications efforts. Strangely, these are the efforts most under threat by the new cost-cutting teams. If it goes too far, it will amount to unilateral disarmament in the world’s most important contest. nytimes.com/2025/03/22/us/po…

In @ForeignPolicy, I argue Russia has no business negotiating an Iran nuclear deal with the United States.

Good points to remember that Russia actively blocked both Max pressure and efforts at a new agreement last year
Long an arsonist in the Middle East, Russia now offers to play firefighter in mediating a nuclear agreement between the U.S. and Iran. Russia has done more than most to undermine Maximum Pressure and support Iran and its proxies. Better for @POTUS to work with E3 allies…
The Civilian Protection Center of Excellence doesn't exist because of Presidential directives. Its creation was mandated by law -- the bipartisan FY23 NDAA directed its creation and its mandate. It is codified in Title 10 Sec. 184 of US Code.
Replying to @DanLamothe
The center’s leadership was instructed Monday that the Pentagon was moving forward with plans to halt all civilian harm mitigation work, rescinding Biden administration directives and firing or reassigning nearly 170 personnel who advise military leaders.

… to reconstitute a multilateral maximum pressure campaign to negotiate a deal from a position of strength. I wrote about it here:
