Been on this 3 years, family of 6, best healthcare I’ve ever had. @JoinCrowdHealth @CrowdCEO
I called to cancel my health insurance because I couldn't afford the premium anymore.
The rep asked why I wanted to cancel.
I told her I'm paying $685 a month for a family plan with a $9,000 deductible.
That's $8,220 a year before I've even paid for a single doctor's visit, prescription, or emergency room bill.
So if someone in my family gets seriously sick, I'm still looking at thousands of dollars in medical expenses on top of the premiums I've already been paying all year.
I asked her what exactly I'm supposed to do with a plan like that.
She explained that the policy was designed to help cover eligible medical expenses after I met my deductible.
I told her I understood how insurance works. What I don't understand is how a family can pay more than $8,000 a year for coverage and still be terrified of getting sick.
She didn't have an answer.
WE'VE CREATED A HEALTHCARE SYSTEM WHERE PEOPLE ARE PAYING THOUSANDS TO PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM MEDICAL BILLS THEY STILL CAN'T AFFORD.
Shout out to @JoinCrowdHealth for the shirt.
Front says Uninsured. Back says Fund humans, not health insurance. I wear it and strangers start conversations.
Crowd Health changed my life. It got me out from under the helplessness of traditional health insurance.
The cost is realistic. Not financially crippling. I can actually afford to keep my family covered without that monthly gut punch.
And when we need help, there’s a team that shows up for us instead of fighting us.
That’s the unlock.

Eight months as a self-pay patient and the part that surprised me most:
No network. I go to whatever doctor I want. I tell the front desk I’m self-pay, I cover the first $500 of a health event, and the community funds what’s above it.
Nobody in the middle deciding what counts. @Joincrowdhealth

Incentives are everything. Find a company that has the incentive to get your bills paid, not one that profits off of denying your bills.

Andy Schoonover built an alternative to health insurance that reduced medical bills by 50%.
How?
They cut out the middleman.
He came up with the idea for CrowdHealth after his doctor offered him a 40% discount for paying directly rather than going through health insurance.
“I thought that these massive healthcare companies, like UnitedHealthcare … would use that power to negotiate really good rates.”
“But in reality … they put all this bureaucracy and middlemen in between me and my doctor, and therefore raised the cost.”
“I’m fine paying a pediatrician bill that’s $130, but what happens with cancer?”
“What happens with an automobile accident?”
So he decided to build a crowdfunding platform for health care that would, in theory, significantly lower the costs of members’ medical bills.
And it worked.
“50,000 bills later, what we have found is that our members are getting 50% better rates by paying direct than the large health insurance plans.”

Andy Schoonover just revealed the dark secret that explains why health insurance costs keep skyrocketing year after year:
“The sellers of healthcare, which are big hospital systems, they want the price to go up.”
“But very few people understand that the buyers of healthcare, these health insurance plans, they also want the price to go up.”
Why?
It all goes back to Obamacare.
“What happened with the Affordable Care Act is that the insurance providers can only make 15% in profit of your premium.”
“So if you have $1,000 of premium, they can only make $150.”
“So how do they grow their revenue by 10%, let’s say, so their profit can go from $150 to $165?”
“Your premium has to go from $1,000 to $1,100.”
“That’s one of the main reasons why they don’t take a very hard negotiating tactic with a lot of these big hospital systems.”
“It’s oligopoly versus oligopoly.”
“We have no market forces who are trying to push those prices down.”
“All the market forces are trying to drive the prices up.”
“That’s where we’ve gotten $5,000 MRIs.”
“If I went and paid in cash, it would be $400.”
“The incentives are screwed up within the system.”
So Schoonover built an alternative to the traditional health insurance system.
CrowdHealth is a crowdfunding platform for health care costs that has upended this broken incentive system.
They already have 30,000 members, and their members pay a fraction of what traditional health insurance costs.

What if we told you there was an alternative to health insurance?
And it costs a fraction of the price?
And its members get healthier, not sicker?
That’s what Andy Schoonover is building with CrowdHealth.
He just told Jeffrey Tucker that their 30,000 members have saved a total of “$80 million over the last five years.”
How?
By cutting out the middleman.
CrowdHealth is a crowdfunding platform, not an insurance company.
“If you’re a family of four and you started with us in 2022, you’d have $70,000 more in your pocket today than you would have if you were with health insurance.”
“That’s game-changing money for a lot of people.”
Not only are CrowdHealth members saving money, but they’re actually getting healthier, not sicker.
“People feel like they have more … sovereignty over the outcomes of their health.”
“People just take a renewed view on chronic conditions and taking care of themselves.”

Jeffrey Tucker just said the quiet part out loud.
Since Obamacare was passed, American health has “fallen off a cliff.”
Why?
“Obamacare broke the connection between your lifestyle choices … and what you pay for medical care.”
Andy Schoonover: “It’s actually illegal for health insurance providers to give some people better rates than others based upon their health status.”
And the “so-called MAHA movement,” Jeffrey says, “needs to come to terms with this.”
“We need actual system reform.”
“We don’t need sermons and slogans.”
“Until we have actual options that connect people’s individual choices with the financial underpinnings that unite those things together, that’s when it clicks.”
“I suddenly want to be healthy again.”

You may have missed this news recently - the health insurance system in America is so broken, that the Trump administration is quietly rewriting the Affordable Care Act and buried deep in a monstrous 1,000+ page document is a ploy to let health insurance companies start lending money to patients to pay for their medical care.
That's right: if you get hit with a devastating diagnosis or an unexpected emergency, your "insurance" company won't just pay the bill... they'll offer you a loan instead. So you can go deeper into debt to the very same industry that's already failing you.
Let me say that again. You pay health insurance so that you'll be insured in a time of a health crisis. Already, health insurers are denying nearly 20% of claims and out of pocket expenses keep rising. So instead of them paying your bill, which is what you pay the insurance for, they'll now be incentivized to deny even more bills or raise out of pocket expenses in order to cash in on the interest they'll be collecting.
A third of American households are already drowning in medical debt — and now insurers get to pile on even more, with interest. While these companies rake in billions in profits, everyday people will be trapped paying back loans for the care they thought was "covered." This isn't fixing healthcare.
This is turning your health insurer into your loan shark — and making an already predatory, dysfunctional system even more financially crushing for ordinary Americans. Classic "you get sick, you go broke" American healthcare — now with extra debt servitude.
On the plus side, there is a company that is providing a solution to this problem. CrowdHealth, a member focused health care company is saving Americans tens of thousands of dollars, and in May of this year 100% of medical bills were funded.
No loans needed. No exorbitant premiums. No crazy out of pocket expenses. A model that is actually working, is not throwing Americans into bankruptcy because of an unexpected health event, is saving people money, and getting them the health care they need.
Andy Schoonover from CrowdHealth joins us now to discuss.

To cancel our @UHC plan, they are making us FAX or mail a letter to them with all of our personal details including SSN. They literally have no other option since we are “off exchange” plan, whatever that means. If someone gets a hold of this letter and steals our identity are they going to fix it? Certainly not. Also who has a fax machine these days!?!? Cannot get rid of them fast enough. @JoinCrowdHealth starting June 1!

Why Health Insurance Makes Care More Expensive youtu.be/DlyAYWrIAgo?si=OTxZ… via @YouTube @JoinCrowdHealth This is a great episode with the CEO of Crowdhealth, Andy Schonnover.
Andy is that rarest of tech guys, he understands healthcare extremely well, is very humble, and very focused on the Crowdies, that is, his customers.
Everything he does is done with empathy and value. Two of my favorite people are customers and spokespersons, @noahkaufmanmd and @HCLibertyLab
Please give this a listen and learn how Crowdhealth has the best design, website, and transparency in the crowd sharing space, in my opinion.
The highlights for me with CrowdHealth are as follows:
• Complete transparency on the website. You can
review all of the claims data! The BUCAHs aren't
doing that!
• Low and simple pricing options
• A great concierge program, and you are assigned one
person with whom you always interact!
• There is telehealth included, along with
telecounselling.
• Great shopping tools to help you find great doctors,
labs, drugs, and imaging.
• There is a discount for being healthy! It is tied to labs,
visceral body fat, and other measures.
Health Sharing and DPC are a great combination!

RANT: So I pay $1700 a month for Blue Cross insurance for myself and my daughter. My cardiologist is worried about this massive clot in my heart and scheduled a scan but I have to get another doctor that I have never met to approve it. He can't meet with me for six months. The way we pay for healthcare is broken.
