So cool
200 AUAR micro factories. That’s all the UK needs to clear its entire yearly housing backlog. 🏗️
I just visited AUAR in London. They are building fully autonomous micro factories for houses. A robotic arm, a robotic saw, a robotic assembly table. All of it fits in a shipping container.
The bet: Ship the factory to the construction site. Build walls there.
For 100 years people tried to industrialize housing. Every attempt failed.
Transport costs kill the economics. The factory is too expensive, the product too heavy.
AUAR inverts it. Ship the factory, not the product.
Two containers build a village. Ten build a small town. 200 build everything the UK needs in a year. And now they are starting to scale production.
Mollie and Gilles are architects who spent a decade researching construction robotics before it was cool, they even wrote the book on it.
We visited them as they are finishing their latest micro factory for a home builder on the US East Coast. One micro factory. 40 homes. Next they will help to build new UK cities for a million people.
Disclaimer: we’re small investors, big fans..
Disclaimer 2: Yes, the housing crisis can be fixed by robots. 🦾🇪🇺

aiforactualwork.com now goes all the way from your first prompt to Software Factories. These 4 new courses help you and your team learn:
1. Decision Models: let a model sort your incoming work, like support messages, and know exactly when you can trust it to act on its own
2. Harnesses: give an agent the instructions, limits and checks to do a job right
3. AI-Native Engineering: fix bugs and ship features with coding agents
4. Software Factories: run many agents on bug backlogs and migrations, with the sign-offs that keep their changes safe
This is how our teams at @Remote work today - available as courses anybody can take for free: aiforactualwork.com
Global work is already here.
The hard part is building the infrastructure that makes it work.
That’s what we built at Remote: a financial operating system for the global workforce, bringing the pay behind global work into one system of record.
That’s what makes us different.
We pay the world.
I had the chance to test drive a Porsche Cayenne EV Turbo for a weekend. My daily is a @Tesla model S Plaid.
My thoughts:
* super comfy ride with active ride
* nice interior
* the software has gotten better, but basics like mapping is still much worse than Tesla or Apple or Google Maps
* using CarPlay is fine, but then you need to switch out of CarPlay for 50% of all car related features, including route planning based on charge (and then you’re back a decade in mapping tech)
* fast
* has no noticeable regen. On paper it has, but you can’t one-pedal drive it
* lane keeping / self driving is extremely limited and poor.
It looks great and is fast. Has a nice interior, but ultimately there’s so much I’ll miss from a basic Tesla that I can’t switch for a car that’s meant mostly for convenience.
Starship, Starlink, Grok, and Roadster. These should all have been Sputnik moments for Europe. Triggered immediate deregulation, mobilization of capital, and ambition to catch up. And that's just the work of Elon's companies alone. But what do we get? A hollowed out EU Inc 💀

Pay the world - Bolder mission with a bold look!
Great companies mutate as they adapt to the world, grow with their customers and keep pace with the ambition to be more - continuously embracing that change is what makes us, us. Proud.

There’s a book I’ve carried with me for years: The Toyota Way.
One chapter is about walking the floor. In the early days in Japan, the owners of the factories would not talk to the people on the floor. They tried to solve problems they never saw.
So they started to walk the floor. Go there, see what is going on, see the struggles.

Over two years ago we dropped “years of experience” as a requirement for jobs at @Remote.
I still don’t care for the status quo here. What someone can do matters much more to me than how long they’ve been doing it. A lot of the great people I’ve hired had no experience in the role and won on execution.
Value people for what they can do.
