There’s no mystery behind Mayor Olivia Chow’s budget record. Just math that is readily available for all to see in 100's of pdf's available on line. The budget is public. The candidates complaining about the increases should tell us what they plan to cut: Of the $882 million in new spending under Chow, about 30%, or $266 million, went to an increase in the police budget. Libraries are now open on Sundays. Crisis response teams now work alongside police to help people in distress on the street. Traffic agents. Wheel trans to improve accessible transit. There is also proof in the pudding: less homelessness in Toronto (8%) at a time when everywhere else in the Province there have been surges (23% Province-wide). Spending strategically and surgically, and measuring outcomes, has been working. We need more of this, not less. If candidates have a beef with spending, they should point out what they would cut, specifically. thestar.com/opinion/contribu… via @torontostar

I agree, spoke with her a couple times. She lives in this ward and knows the people and the issues we are facing. Brad certainly let this ward down.

Our Joint Statement with @TorontoACORN re the hard work of real tenant advocates, organizations, & politicians in solving maintenance issues at 500 Dawes Rd & throughout the City The current councillor for Ward 19 (Beaches-East York) was never a meaningful force in this regard

90,000. That’s roughly how many people are on track to be left homeless in Ontario by 2029. Doug Ford has failed to do his job – and we need a different approach. That’s Homes Ontario, which will: 💵 Finance 🏃‍♂️ Fast-track 🏗️ Build ✅🏠 Non-profit, affordable, and supportive housing We know what works. We know the solutions. It’s time to implement them.

Once again Brad Bradford appears to be quite unpopular in his home poll. He lost badly in his own neighbourhood last time. I still don't understand why he is running.
New Forum Research Toronto mayor poll 🟣Olivia Chow: 46% 🔵Brad Bradford: 35% ⚪Someone Else: 13% 🟡Chris Alexander: 6%

I am supporting @JennieWordenTO for Councillor in Ward 19. She is progressive, smart, with real integrity. She’s in this for the right reasons - to help people, build a city that is safe, inclusive and sustainable.

@Janet_Davis any tips for BEY residents for councillor and trustee in October’s election? Field has been quiet on canvasses in my area to this point

Jenny listens and really knows to put ideas into action. I really like her- she’ll make a great councillor. Trustee- Karen Emerson! Active parent, ran the amazing Children’s Peace Theatre. Will be a strong voice.

One thing that is undeniably true: the advocates for and tenants of 500 Dawes are consistent in saying that Bradford did little, if anything, to support them in his 8 years as their city councillor. This building has been in ruins for *years* and worsened on his watch.

1/ @oliviachow 's announcement re. the Bad Landlord's Housing Taskforce marks an exciting juncture in efforts to improve property standards enforcement and protect Torontonians Odd that @BenSpurr @TorontoStar chose this headline. He's off by a mile.

Rubbish! There's no doubt who got real action here - @oliviachow. Bradford ignored 500 Dawes Road for 8 years. I know this building and history well: years of violations and enforcement. But it was tenant organizing and the Mayor's intervention that finally got serious results.

🚨The Canadian government wants to make it easier for companies to keep wages low and harder for workers to push back, by weakening the right to strike and collectively bargain. Not on our watch. Send a message to the government now. share.canadianlabour.ca/s/jD…

The government is using the trade war to rush through sweeping legislation that will create crises, not solve them.

We’re losing so many long-term care homes in the East End. Likely why a third of the inpatient beds at our local hospital are ALC with so many older adults needing a place to go but having to remain in hospital because there are no beds open elsewhere.

Today I am in New York at the Urban 20 Mayor’s Summit, co-hosted by @NYCMayor and @MayorOfLA, discussing common issues facing the world’s largest municipalities. Here are my remarks from this morning’s session where I accepted an award and grant on behalf of the City of Toronto for our Play Mobile program.

$60 million. To an American company. In the middle of a trade war. Doug Ford's Staples Sweetheart Deal is a fiasco. And taxpayers are getting ripped off. We're calling on the Auditor General to do a full value-for-money audit.
