Hello! My name is Jake Files and I’m applying to internal medicine with an interest in combined research residency programs and infectious diseases! My scientific interests include all host-pathogen interactions and specifically viral immunology.

Thanks goes to @UABMSTP for allowing us to attend and @A_P_S_A for putting on such a great conference! As always, I appreciate @NerdmannID and @OASkye for the support and the exciting science that I was able to present!
Finished Step 2 and my MS3 clinical year this past week and was able to celebrate by attending @JointMeeting! Was able to attend some amazing talks, network with program directors, and even try some deep-dish pizza!
Additionally, while NAE-specific CD4+ T-cell responses correlated with HIV-specific antibodies (IgG Env Ab) in one efficacy trial, this was not found to be the case with CD4 + T-cell responses to AE.

By using samples from previous HIV vaccine trials, our study shows that certain vaccine epitopes with evidence of immune escape (termed adapted epitopes or AE), elicit weaker CD4+ T-cell responses when compared to non-adapted epitopes (NAE).

Over these last two weeks, I was able to take some time off! Managed to catch a sunrise in the smokies...

PHD: Pretty Happy to be Done!
2 weeks ago, I successfully defended my PhD dissertation. While it feels great to be done, I am also sad to be leaving. I have greatly enjoyed my time in the lab with @goepfert_paul and many others.

Still feels surreal to be saying this, but my public defense date is one week from today! 🎉 If anybody would like the zoom link, just DM me.
I was able to listen to incredible speakers, network with other researchers, and meet young trainees like myself. As always, thanks to my mentor @goepfert_paul for this opportunity, and to the UAB Max Cooper Immunology Travel Award! Also managed to grab some incredible pics! 2/2
I was able to present my recent research on CD4+ T cell responses at the Next Generation HIV Vaccines and Therapeutics Keystone Symposia in Banff Canada! #KSHIVVAX22 1/2
