Super exciting to see our work on immune responses to acute COVID-19 in people with HIV published. Grateful for the endless support from @NerdmannID @JacobFiles93 Impact of Chronic HIV Infection on Acute Immune Responses to SARS-CoV-2: journals.lww.com/jaids/abstr…

3 Oct 29, 2020, Sustained cellular immune dysregulation in individuals recovering from SARS-CoV-2 infection T cell activation/exhaustion markers remaining elevated in hospitalized and nonhospitalized. B cells had similar pattern of activation/exhaustion, jci.org/articles/view/140491

Immune dysfunction after Covid19. We've known since 2020. We do not know if it is progressive, but w reinfections pretty high & viral persistence occurring it does not matter. A thread from my threads - the top 12 papers showing clear immune dysregulation in chronological order!

Finished Step 2 and my MS3 clinical year this past week and was able to celebrate by attending @JointMeeting! Was able to attend some amazing talks, network with program directors, and even try some deep-dish pizza!

Additionally, while NAE-specific CD4+ T-cell responses correlated with HIV-specific antibodies (IgG Env Ab) in one efficacy trial, this was not found to be the case with CD4 + T-cell responses to AE. 4/5

Overall, these results suggest that vaccine-encoded adapted epitopes dampen CD4+ T-cell responses and impact HIV-specific antibody production. We believe a future "fully non-adapted" HIV vaccine may provide optimal B-cell help for improved HIV-specific antibody production. 5/5

Started my MS3 clinical rotations a few months ago. Loving it! I also just resubmitted a manuscript from my PhD thesis project after receiving reviewer comments. Seeing patients during the week, submitting papers on the weekend... I ALMOST feel like a physician-scientist! 😂

PHD: Pretty Happy to be Done! 2 weeks ago, I successfully defended my PhD dissertation. While it feels great to be done, I am also sad to be leaving. I have greatly enjoyed my time in the lab with @goepfert_paul and many others. 1/4

Starting the clinical phase of my MD training next week! Equally nervous and excited! Will be nice to have a direct role in patient care and to learn about all of medicine! 4/4
