So happy for and proud of our favorite boss Dr. Jackrel! Newest tenured prof in @WashUChem!
Yesterday Sheng (Andy) Chen defended his dissertation like a star ⭐️ We are proud of all he has accomplished during his graduate studies! Congrats Dr. Chen!
Yesterday we celebrated @MacySprunger's dissertation defense! 🎉She is the first graduate student to defend from the lab and we are very proud of all she has accomplished during her graduate studies!🧬
Our collabration with @JaiRudra4 is out now! See how the amphipathic self-assembling cross-β peptide KFE8 compares with α-syn and TDP-43, how it is cleared by cells, and how it performs as a vaccine backbone! @PareshShrimali6 sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
Finally, we took these engineered disaggregases and applied them to preformed S. aureus biofilms and found that that are able to disrupt these structures, likely though the dissolution of PSM fibers.
We then asked if the yeast disaggregase Hsp104 was capable of solubilizing these aggregates and promoting their clearance from cells. We found that engineered Hsp104 variants capable of solubilizing other amyloids are capable of solubilizing these bacterial amyloids as well.
Thrilled to share the lab’s latest work where we dive into the world of bacterial biofilms! 🧫 Here we developed a yeast model to study the aggregation and toxicity of the amyloidogenic PSM proteins from S. aureus.
Happy Friday from the Jackrel Lab flannel Friday crew (minus Joey)! @shamika__10 @KarlieMiller8 @MacySprunger @avikaj0092 @SabrinaTalir
Thrilled to share that one of our stellar undergraduate researchers - Ken Soe - was awarded the #GoldwaterScholarship! We are *soe* glad to see his work on MATR3 recognized! @WashUChem @WUSTLArtSci @WUSTL
