After many of you lovely people told me how you say “garage” in a poll, I concluded that it has too many pronunciations to work in a rhyming poem.
Which meant, of course, that I had to try.
Word that’s making me smile today: scunnered. It’s a Scottish word that means completely fed up with a person or situation. If you’re scunnered, your last nerve is vibrating with irritation.

A mischief of mice, a flamboyance of flamingos, a waddle of penguins (or a ‘raft’ if they are in water). What is your favourite collective noun? Feel free to suggest new ones!
Word that’s making me smile today: euneirophrenia. It’s the lingering sensation of peace as you wake from a pleasant dream, which leaves you wishing you could forget about the real world and slip back into the dream.

Poetry travels around Rotterdam on garbage trucks:
“You see it as you cycle to work or wait for a lorry to pass. Sometimes you read a line that stays with you for the rest of the day. What started as a quirky idea has become part of our city.”

To write poetry effectively young poets have to know it well. Immersion in broad spectrum poetry is therefore essential. Help them discover their poet's heart.

It's publication day for Why No Rhino? 🦏🎉
A big thank you to @NFPublishingUK for bringing this book into the world and to Tom Jellett (all the way down under) for the wonderful illustrations. His book titles throughout are 👌🏻
I'm going to run a poetry club at my neighbourhood elementary school this year. This prompt has me itching to put pencil to paper with the kids!
Daily poetry prompt: What can you see inside a marble?
A space genie locked in glass.
Coke bubbles colliding with one another.
A magical merboat sailing the silent ocean...
Even the most reluctant writers can achieve success with this idea. brian-moses.blogspot.com/201… @PieCorbett
Word that’s making me smile today: limn. Limners illuminated medieval manuscripts with gold and silver. Over time, limn came to mean to vividly portray something, such as a musician limning an emotion or a writer limning a character.
Word that’s making me smile today: ochibabune. It’s a Japanese term that means “fallen leaf boat.” In Japan, an autumn leaf drifting on water is a poignant metaphor for vulnerability and impermanence.

Poem 25 takes an abstract notion and makes it concrete. Just for the sheer thrill of creating ideas and testing them.

Thank you to School Reading List for featuring Poems on Toast on their list of poetry books for 7-11 year-olds - "...an outstanding collection that moves effortlessly between funny, thoughtful and contemplative moments. It's perfect to read or discuss in KS2 classrooms.". 🧡
Word that’s making me smile today: opificer. It’s a lost term for a person who creates things. It comes from the Latin word opus, which means the product of labour or literally “work of art.”

Daily poetry prompt: What if you could bring back scenery from your holiday?
Swap your city streets
for mountain peaks,
or streams of traffic
for a holiday beach?
Maybe roll up rivers
and run them past your door....
