NLCS MVP Jake Bauers shares how letting go of results helped him find a different level of freedom as a competitor.
"I think what changed for me this year was I stopped caring about results. I started caring about competing. I started caring about being in the moment and getting out of my own way."
Sometimes, the biggest obstacle to performing at your best isn't a lack of preparation or ability.
It's the pressure you place on yourself to produce a particular outcome.
You become so concerned with what you want to happen that you lose touch with what the moment actually requires.
Any performer can unlock a new level when they learn how to be fully invested in the competition without becoming imprisoned by the outcome.

When Thunder GM Sam Presti was 17, he played one-on-one against a random guy at a health club outside Boston.
The moment was so memorable and formative, he decided to track the guy down 30 years later.
And that was just the beginning of the story.

Yankees’ power development in Double-A has been impressive.
Patriots got to 100 HRs seven games faster than any AA team has in the research tool era (since 2005). On pace for 230 HRs (Somerset set the record in 2022 with 205).
Garrett Martin leads the Eastern League with 19.

Here's a plot of organization-level 90th-percentile exit velo & contact rate in the minors.
This combines Class A through Triple-A data.
Margins are small, so don't freak out, but it's a decent way to categorize org hitting performance/process 2 months into the MiLB season.

What if I told you the Yankees have a player who...
- Has a higher Hard-Hit% than Juan Soto
- Strikes out less than Freddie Freeman
- Is putting up a higher OPS+ than Fernando Tatis Jr.
...and that player WASN'T Aaron Judge?
Meet BEN RICE.

We pay too much attention to the most confident voices—and too little attention to the most thoughtful ones.
Certainty is not a sign of credibility. Speaking assertively is not a substitute for thinking deeply.
It's better to learn from complex thinkers than smooth talkers.

Rather than ‘breaking down film’ of your sprint athletes’ techniques, almost every sprint coach on the planet would make better use of their time appreciating the basic fundamentals of what the body is supposed to do, and how it does it.

Absolutely heartbreaking day. Brian DeLunas was a coach, a mentor, a friend and a father. He was great in every role because they all require what his life's work became about: Being there for those who needed him.

And further sought to either expose inefficiency at sub-maximal intensity or avoid reps without sufficient feedback loop

On sport practice:
If the lot of what is done in practice does not causally link to what the competition consists of, then the margin for uncertainty unnecessarily increases regarding how your players/athletes will perform in competition.
