I am transparent about my beliefs because I write as participant-chronicler. But not everyone who writes on belief or parapsychology (the two differ) need be. In that vein, I'm inspired by @UVA's Ian Stevenson, M.D. (1918-2007), author of Twenty Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation (1966), et al. Asked by a reporter in 2002 the typical question about his eschatology, Stevenson replied: "My beliefs should make no difference to anyone." There's a time and place for testimony. But in our era of over-disclosure (and sometimes disclosure substituting for excellence), I find Stevenson's indifference refreshing. He's among the many parapsychologists profiled in my upcoming pod Extraordinary Evidence: ESP Is Real, launching Oct. 30.
