The issue of increasing the number of voters in a polling station to a maximum of 1,000, to me, is very insensitive because we need to appreciate the fact that our society is unique. The way people live together and the way populations are mobilised sometimes come with a lot of other challenges, whether in terms of family setup, religious setup, and so on. So, we need to accommodate these unique challenges. ~ Hon. Julius Rutto,. #BungeLiveNA.

How much does it really cost to cast a vote in Kenya? @KuriaKimaniMP While the global benchmark sits at approximately $5 per vote, findings from the PIERK Consortium Study on the #CostOfElections reveal Kenya's numbers are significantly higher: * In 2017, the average cost to cast a vote per voter was $26 against a budgeted allocation of $16 * In 2022, the average cost to cast a vote per voter was $20 against a budgeted allocation of $12. Kenya consistently ranks among the highest globally in electoral expenditure. Addressing these budget overruns is critical for long-term fiscal stability and democratic sustainability. 🔗 Read the full report👉: nimd.org/publication/cost-of… #ElectoralReforms #GoodGovernance #Kenya #PublicFinance #CostOfPoliticsKE
How much does it cost to cast a vote in this country? I was trying to do a small analysis of how much it costs for a Kenyan to cast a vote in an election. In 2022, it was approximately KSh 2,600 per vote. How does that compare with the cost of casting a vote in other jurisdictions? For example, if we compare that with South Africa, it costs four times more in Kenya than it does in South Africa. This means that, at the same cost as one vote in Kenya, four votes could be cast in South Africa. ~ @KuriaKimaniMP #BungeLiveNA.

Spending a whole KSh 50 billion on an electoral process is self-defeating and painful. From a banking background, I wonder how we trust everything else but not our own processes when it comes to elections. You trust the system that you use every day to transact your money, to support yourself and your family, but we cannot trust that we can conduct an election that is transparent. We want to spend money to print an A4 sheet of paper. ~ Hon. Kwenya Thuku. #BungeLiveNA.

On the issue of whether a person holding an expired passport should be allowed to vote, a few years ago they introduced an identity card with an expiry date. Knowing the state of the economy right now, some people may not have renewed their passports. So, I think that is okay. As long as someone is holding a passport, it shows that they are Kenyan and should be allowed to vote. ~ @KamauNgotho01 #BungeLiveNA.

These laws concerning elections are always brought at the tail end of Parliament. I've been looking at what's being proposed in this Bill, and there's nothing that we didn't know we might need to change in 2022, 2023, 2024, or even 2025. Why must the IEBC wait until the tail end of a Parliament to bring these amendments? You know, the amendments might be good, but people might read sinister motives into them. Why so late in the day? Where have they been? ~ @David_Ouma #BungeLiveNA.

Strengthening knowledge. Sharpening skills. Deepening our understanding of what makes an electoral process credible. Day 2 of the learning and exchange brought ELOG’s member network and partners into deeper conversations on universal suffrage, fundamental freedoms, election observation and reporting. We also unpacked issues increasingly shaping elections in Kenya and beyond: 🔹 Election technology 🔹 Political finance 🔹 Information manipulation & disinformation 🔹 Data protection 🔹 Artificial Intelligence and elections For us, effective election observation is not just about what happens at the polling station. It is about understanding the wider electoral environment, identifying emerging risks and producing credible, impartial evidence. Better skills. Better evidence. Stronger election observation.@EPDE_org Day 2 done. One more day to go. 🇰🇪 #ElectionObservation #ElectoralReforms #Kenya2027
