Keep seeing this guy “Julian Assange” all over today and it appears he has a lot of people fooled unfortunately. I really wish people would just realize and accept that the world is a stage. Have you ever wondered what creates the artificial flavors of raspberry, vanilla, or strawberry in some of your favorite foods? They might come from an unexpected source: castoreum. This substance is derived from the dried perineal glands of beavers, which are located where the sun don’t shine. Castoreum, often listed as ‘natural flavoring’ on ingredient labels, is a yellowish secretion mixed with beaver urine, used by beavers to mark their territory. Remarkably, this secretion is also sometimes utilized, along with secretions from pigs near their rectum, for food flavoring. In the United States, the FDA considers castoreum a safe food additive, typically labeled just as “natural flavoring” in both foods and beverages, providing flavors reminiscent of vanilla, raspberry, and strawberry.
