.@thehvacjack and @HeySamPreston shared a lot of interesting numbers in their recent @OwnedxOperated pod ep, but this scenario is probably the one that will change your mindset most. If you have a $10,000 monthly marketing budget and pay an agency $3,000, 30% is gone before you spend a dollar on ads. That leaves $7,000 to generate leads, book jobs and bring in enough revenue to fund the next month. Spread that across too many platforms and you can burn through it without learning much. Their advice: Start with 1–3 channels, track which ones generate booked jobs and concentrate spending on the strongest performers. Keep experimenting as you grow. Just give each marketing dollar a clear job.

If you are a home services business owner and you want to scale This is what I would recommend above basically anything else My .02
We’re opening the doors to Wilson Companies. + 100 home service operators. + 3 days in Akron. + Shop tours. + Tactical breakouts. Most importantly: Real conversations with operators building and scaling right now. Catalyst is coming May 3–5, 2027. ownedandoperated.com/catalys…

All hands meeting this AM to get everyone on the same page about our now $49M shop (thanks to 4 acquisitions this year). Made some big announcements about upgraded benefits and a new sewer lining re-liner (LightRay) that’s gonna cut our work time down by more than 50%. And of course, we had our traditional home cooked Wilson breakfast (big shoutout to chef Chris Tasich). Everyone left feeling connected and energized for a HOT week with heat index in the 100s. LFG.

LSA is one of the best channels in HVAC/plumbing… but only if someone is actively managing it.

Home service operators: Do this today. - Pull last month’s traffic - Count leads - Count booked jobs - Count closed deals Now calculate conversion rates. Where’s the drop? That’s your growth problem. Fix the leak before you buy more traffic.

Stop throwing money at ads until you fix this. Traffic isn’t the problem. Funnels break. If you can’t track: Leads → Appointments → Close rate You’re guessing. That’s what we help home service companies fix every day.

If your phone isn’t ringing, it’s not always a traffic problem. It’s usually a funnel problem. We build and fix these every day at @servicescalers

Hot take: most SEO “strategy” conversations are pointless if your site is technically broken. Mobile-first indexing means: If your mobile Core Web Vitals suck… you’re dragging an anchor. Fix foundation → then scale content.

Most home service owners buy more ads. The smart ones fix the funnel first. Here’s the framework 👇

AI isn’t replacing your home service team. It’s warming the lead so your team can close it. Human + AI > Human or AI.
153
Stop overcomplicating junk removal marketing. Free visibility first. Relationships second. Paid scale third.

AI search killed low-effort SEO. 100 generic blogs won’t save you. Home service companies win when they: explain how stuff works show real experience (photos/videos) answer homeowner questions make it easy to book/call Helpful > volume.
