Recently, out of the blue I got a call from @DKMS_uk - the charity that helps people with blood cancer. I'd forgotten that 5yrs ago I did a cheek swab... but the call was to say I was a possible match for someone in urgent need of stem cell or bone marrow transplant.
It's a chance to help someone survive who wouldn't otherwise. Unfortunately, having just been through the next stage, I've been ruled out of donating.
So to turn that into a positive, I wanted to suggest if you fancy registering to be a donor, if age 18 - 55 you can do it here... dkms.org.uk - and hopefully one of you may be the match that actually saves a life.

It's very frustrating for the many thousands of people with cancer who took time to feed into the development of the cancer plan, who now find the consultation is reopening with a different remit.

It's being replaced with a new ‘Major Conditions Strategy’. Of course some challenges facing people with cancer are system wide (workforce, inequity etc), but there are life threatening problems that are specific to cancer that require serious and urgent attention. 2/3
