Check out our new preprint, describing the transcriptional and proteomic events during Vaccinia virus infection in human cells.
Spearheaded by the incomparable @alex___me, who spent a few super productive months with @lab_arias and me at the @czbiohub.

🚨 New #LoveVirology preprint:
This paper has it all: single cells, COVID, CRISPR & Sunshine!
We systematically characterize host factors of SARS-CoV-2 using Perturb-seq.
Led by @sarasunshinebio, bringing together @JswLab, Joe DeRisi's lab & many others
doi.org/10.1101/2022.07.15.5…

ALT Schematic of the Perturb-seq workflow to study SARS-CoV-2 host factors (Fig. 1A of the paper): A sgRNA library targeting host factors of SARS-CoV-2 is delivered to Calu-3 cells stably expressing the CRISPRi machinery. The cells are then infected with SARS-CoV-2 and analyzed by single-cell RNA-seq, analyzing the expression of host and viral genes in 27k individual cells, and monitoring how perturbation of host factors changes the progression of infection and the activity of antiviral pathways.

The Hein lab officially launched 🚀
and as an "inauguration gift", I was listed among the #HighlyCited2022 scientists 🥳
This week, I'm excited to interview candidates for the @viennabiocenter PhD program and hope to meet some future lab members!
