Honored to share our work @SocInvestDerm 2026, on the skin, and how the immune system, the endocrine system, and the skin microbes interface. Our latest is now in press published with @natureportfolio.nature.com Nature Microbiology! #research. rdcu.be/e50PE
Tamia Harris-Tryon, MD/PhD (UT Southwestern) presents on immune-endocrine regulation of the skin microbiome.
Her lab investigates how resident microbes shape the skin barrier + contribute to inflammatory disease.

Exciting to have our findings out after peer review!!! The skin generates sex steroids in nanomolar to micromolar amounts, depending on the sex steroid and the skin site. Specifically skin androgens regulate S. aureus quorum sensing.

Great summary of what is known about S. aureus/skin dynamics. We are exciting to be expanding the picture with our findings demonstrating how the skin secretes hormones and how testosterone stimulates QS in S. aureus. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/4051…

Congrats to all on a labor of love. I recall "pd-1 is boring" as a grant review comment. Not so boring in fact...

Very proud to have our lab's first work published in @cellhostmicrobe!
In this work, we use functional metagenomics to find phage defenses from human and soil microbiomes!
Congrats to first author @luis840alberto !

My lab’s first preprint!
We used functional metagenomics to identify phage defenses in human and soil microbiomes. We scaled these selections while maintaining accuracy, enabling us to examine 9 habitats for defense elements against 7 phages.
