My message to the young civic actors and changemakers at #DareConference2026 was simple: โ€œChange doesnโ€™t happen in comfort.โ€ Speaking on the topic โ€œA People-Centered Democracy is Possible in Nigeria,โ€ I must admit that the realities of leading civic action in Nigeria back in 2012, when I championed the #SaveBagega campaign, are undoubtedly different from the realities of Nigeria today. The #SaveBagega campaign followed the money, leveraged the power of media and ultimately saved over 1,500 children from dying of lead poisoning. Despite current realities, one thing remains certain, ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ž ๐ญ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฐ๐ž๐ซ ๐ข๐ง ๐š๐ง๐ฒ ๐ฌ๐จ๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ญ๐ฒ ๐ฅ๐ข๐ž๐ฌ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐œ๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐ฐ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ข๐ญ๐ฌ ๐œ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ณ๐ž๐ง๐ฌ, not in the hands of a few political elites. As such, young people must take a keen interest in understanding the processes of governance, know the roles and responsibilities of different offices and tiers of government, and leverage the power of media to organize for change! โ€œA People Centered Democracy is Possible in Nigeriaโ€ but it wonโ€™t happen in comfort. So ๐ƒ๐€๐‘๐„! Kudos to @rotexonline and the team at @youthhubafrica for bringing young people together to spark these critical conversations, challenge the status quo, and co-create the blueprint for the Nigeria we all want to see. #HamzyCODE

Leadership training must translate into sustained participation in the decisions that shape our communities. Our Founder, @HamzyCODE , reinforced this message as a guest speaker at the Social Innovation and Leadership Bootcamp (SILB Africa 5.0) in Asaba, Delta State. The 2026 edition, themed โ€œThe Architects of Change,โ€ brought together young people from across Nigeria and other African countries to learn, connect and prepare for leadership responsibilities. Reflecting on the Save Bagega story, Hamzy highlighted how citizen-led advocacy can draw attention to neglected communities and drive change. His reflections offered a practical lesson for delegates: meaningful leadership begins with recognising a problem, organising around it and staying engaged until action follows. At Connected Development, we believe young people must have the knowledge, opportunities and support to influence public decisions. This conviction continues to guide our work with citizens and marginalised communities. #ConnectedDevelopment #SILBAfrica2026 #YouthLeadership #YouthParticipation #AccountableGovernance

HAMZAT B. LAWAL: "At the heart of Salihuโ€™s book is Gender Equity and Social Inclusion โ€“ GESI. The distinction between equity and equality is crucial. The book argues that equality represents the desired destination, while equity is the pathway for getting there. People do not begin from the same position, possess the same resources or face the same barriers. Therefore, giving everybody exactly the same thing does not necessarily produce justice. The GESI consequently becomes a framework for identifying and addressing structural disadvantage. Gender is only one dimension. Age, disability, geography, class, faith, language, displacement and other social circumstances intersect to determine whether a person is included or excluded. The book therefore challenges the temptation to treat categories of people as homogeneous. A poor woman in a rural community does not experience exclusion in exactly the same way as an educated woman in an urban centre. A young person with a disability does not face precisely the same barriers as an elderly person living alone. A conflict-displaced family does not experience government services in the same way as a politically connected urban household." thecable.ng/leading-with-ourโ€ฆ

Mobilizing billions is a strong step, that must be backed by strict accountability. As we push toward critical turning points for our nation, every single cent must build "the Nigeria we want" from the ground up. We will be watching to see how this $5.79B translates into real impact for the average Nigerian. #FollowTheMoney
The @WorldBankGroup is helping mobilize up to $5.79 billion in private financing for #Nigeria, combining policy reform, investment platforms, risk mitigation, and commercial financing. Read more: worldbank.org/en/news/featurโ€ฆ

Democracy thrives on freedom of association and expression. I have watched what appears to be a deliberate attack on Bashir, Leme, & Gimba. To me, this reflects their growing influence in politics and governance. As young people across different political divides, we must understand the importance of building alliances with our peers who can help keep the doors of opportunity open for others. Never be foolish with your words in the public space. Speak with facts, not fiction; engage with reason, not hate. Political differences should never stop us from recognising the value of one another or building bridges for a better future. Politics is about ideas, influence, and progressโ€”not hate and personal attacks.
