Opening Tea Conversation: Health “From Policy to Practice: Sex, Data, and Protecting Young People’s Rights in the Digital Age” Moderated by @rotexonline Speaking on digital safety, @SolaFagro said young people cannot afford to remain silent. “We need to fight back; silence will take us nowhere,” he said. He also urged participants to pay attention to the security of their devices. @muriel_mafico reflected on how technology can better serve young people, asking how it can be made accessible and affordable, and how it can understand and interpret local languages. She noted that technology should complement communities, not erase them, and that closing digital gaps will require collective effort. While embracing technology, she stressed that it should not replace family and values. On youth-friendly services, @muriel_mafico stressed that they should not remain just a concept but become an actionable model that truly responds to young people’s needs. #DAREConference #YouthPower #DigitalRights #Health @DARE_Africa

My message to the young civic actors and changemakers at #DareConference2026 was simple: “Change doesn’t happen in comfort.” Speaking on the topic “A People-Centered Democracy is Possible in Nigeria,” I must admit that the realities of leading civic action in Nigeria back in 2012, when I championed the #SaveBagega campaign, are undoubtedly different from the realities of Nigeria today. The #SaveBagega campaign followed the money, leveraged the power of media and ultimately saved over 1,500 children from dying of lead poisoning. Despite current realities, one thing remains certain, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐬, not in the hands of a few political elites. As such, young people must take a keen interest in understanding the processes of governance, know the roles and responsibilities of different offices and tiers of government, and leverage the power of media to organize for change! “A People Centered Democracy is Possible in Nigeria” but it won’t happen in comfort. So 𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐄! Kudos to @rotexonline and the team at @youthhubafrica for bringing young people together to spark these critical conversations, challenge the status quo, and co-create the blueprint for the Nigeria we all want to see. #HamzyCODE

"African leaders are not listening enough to young people," says @rotexonline. While policies lag, youth drive cross-border trade in the informal economy. It’s time for leaders to align policies with this reality. 🌍🚀 @ASG_Africa #AfricanYouth #PolicyReform

At the African Mindset Reset Forum, our Executive Director, Rotimi Olawale @rotexonline, highlighted how young people are already building connections, creating opportunities, and driving cross-border trade through informal networks and digital platforms. The call is simple: policy must catch up with the realities of young Africans. Rather than more talk, young people need access to capital and enabling policies that empower them to connect, create wealth, and shape Africa’s future. #AfricanMindsetReset #IntergenerationalDialogue #YouthHubAfrica

The next session turned from mindset to mechanics, what's actually blocking action, and what it will take to move. Mr. Claver Gatete @claverGatete named the gap plainly: political will, from heads of state and ordinary people alike. Ms. Yvonne Makolo @YvonneMakolo, CEO of RwandAir, made the case for aviation as necessity, not luxury. Africa holds 1.4bn people but only 2% of global air traffic. SAATM has been signed, but 38 countries in and nearly 20 years on, Gatete noted, we're still signing agreements instead of implementing them. Her call: open Africa's skies, properly. Allen Kagina @Allen_Kagina took the tax question back to pre-colonial Africa, where village contributions funded roads and landing sites because people saw the benefit. Colonialism turned contribution into extraction, and that wound never fully healed. Her challenge to the room: destigmatise tax by making it visibly serve the people again. Rotimi Olawale @rotexonline argued policy must catch up to where young Africans already are, building informal economies, and that the real unlock is capital in young hands to connect and create wealth. Gugulethu Siso brought it to street level: a trader moving goods from Lagos to Mombasa often has to route payment through the US via PayPal, because it's faster and cheaper than bank to bank within Africa itself, proof of how far regulation lags behind actual commerce. Amb. Marie Antoinette Rose Quatre @APRM_MarieRose closed with a sobering reset: Africa risks being left behind by AI while still failing to capture basic birth records, with 40% of African children out of school. Her point was simple and hard to argue with, fix the fundamentals, education, waste collection, basic data, before reaching for the frontier. A room of LéO Fellows listened closely, aware that mindset reset means little without the machinery to execute it. #AfricaMindsetReset #MetaAfricanism #AfricanLeadership

There's a feature I like on moniepoint POS where the vendor can reject the payment and you receive your refund back immediately, I accidentally paid a vendor way more than necessary this morning and she rejected it, I then re-transferred the correct amount, nice!

I don't speak for Mark Okoye, but it is interesting that a lot of people will believe that a whole FG Agency will hire a one room as a liaison office in the nation's capital. An agency with billions of Naira in budget will hire a one room as a liaison office. It's not possible
