Jersey’s fuel tax is 63.8p per litre plus 5% GST. Guernsey’s fuel tax is 90.5p per litre (no GST).

Hundreds of millions of taxpayer money committed in a blink of an eye yesterday. Today we must scrutinise every line of every officer report! Make it make sense!

Was ambition a valid substitute for ensuring a contract established deliverable MyGov outcomes? VP P&R seems to suggest SOG failure to deliver was down to this very point.

So it seems SOG is absolutely only a passive shareholder of Aurigny. Is that news to anybody though?

Territorial tax remains on the menu, but take note of those who were clear that they won’t vote for it in July. The amendment failed, but it should now be clear that territorial tax can’t succeed.

In today’s Press, Roffey suggests that zero-based budgeting is unrelated to cost reduction. I disagree. ZBB forces decisions to be made on the full facts; not on a budget presented as a big, impenetrable number plus a bit more that is impossible to challenge.

Paying for the roles that they SHOULD be allowed to do is fine. Paying them for doing the roles with no power is a total waste of money.

The Offshore Wind Review Panel, has considered the findings outlined in the Minister for the Environment’s report, out today, and although disappointed, supports the Government decision to postpone bringing forward a proposal to move to a leasing process for an offshore wind farm for Jersey. It’s a matter of public record that Deputy St Pier confirmed that I was the only deputy to tell P&R at the budget discussions that the committee (here ED) could operate with less. Admittedly, I missed Matt’s deadline, but this suggests my position is unknown.

Deputy Montague amused me when criticising some UK Academy Trusts which dictate to all their schools. Was he not criticising our own system? 😉

As things currently stand, the Education Governance stuff looks as bad as it ever did. One amendment to limit attendance by Education is still miles away from the purposeful governance model we’ve been promised by ESC. Will window dressing win the day?

I have this morning asked the President of ESC to bring an amendment to the Projet de Loi approved yesterday to permit devolution now ESC has stated its intent to look at devolution and not just delegation. The law only permits delegation.
