Employers are increasingly turning to temporary workers to maintain flexibility amid ongoing economic uncertainty.
The latest #ReportOnJobs found:
🔹 Permanent placements fell at the fastest rate since July 2025
🔹 Temporary billings rose at the strongest pace in over three years
🔹 Demand for permanent staff weakened, while temp demand stabilised
🔹 Candidate availability continued to increase

Labour has been warned not to “regulate flexible jobs out of existence” after new polling found two-thirds of part-time workers chose their role specifically because it offered flexibility around childcare or studying.

#JobsOutlook: Employers still plan to hire, but confidence in the decision-making environment has weakened.
Hiring outlooks for both permanent and temporary roles remained positive in February–April 2026, though sentiment eased slightly from the previous quarter.
Key findings:
📉 Confidence in the UK economy fell to net: -43%
📊 Short-term permanent hiring sentiment: net: +5%
📈 Medium-term permanent hiring sentiment rose to net: +7%
📉 Short-term temporary hiring sentiment fell to net: +2%
