In all honesty if you’re not wealthy or trying to scam your way into being wealthy, being anything to the right of centrism kind of just means you’re a moron.

Three things that just might be related:
* the rise of identitarian deference politics
* cultural expansion of the concept of "disability"
* the fact that disability is the only plausible basis for political deference that can be invoked by professional class white people

We don't interrogate enough the fact that so much of American exceptionalism relies on explaining away each of our atrocities as an oopsie.
It's technically true that the US has killed more civilians than al-Qaeda as @hasanthehun says but that's because the US is a superpower of 350 million people and al-Qaeda is a relatively small terror group. It's comparing apples and oranges. Also, key difference: US policymakers for all their faults do not deliberately try to kill Muslim civilians. Al-Qaeda does.

Kinda hilarious that the U.S. economy never recovered from 2008, but they’ve tried to hide it by letting 10 guys become multi-billionaires to even out the data

Wow it certainly seems like Dems failing to fix the USPS board of governors was yet another unforced error!
🚨BREAKING: A whistleblower claims in a new report that the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has embarked on a “secretive, rushed” effort to implement President Donald Trump’s mail voting order ahead of the midterms, even though the order is currently blocked. democracydocket.com/news-ale…

I mean it’s a scam.
It’s a scam to help AI companies and NVIDIA keep afloat lest they go under and take the world economy with them.
It’s a scam to get more contracts to construction firms now that the warehouse building boom has faded.
It’s just so clearly…scammy

This is very obviously true and what it hints out but doesn’t explicitly state is that the very premise shifts the moral burden away from those with power to those without it, from the oppressor to the oppressed. No one forced Biden/Harris to take their genocidal position.

Ta-Nehisi Coates rejects blaming voters who wouldn’t back Kamala Harris over Gaza for her loss to Trump in 2024, saying many were asked to vote for a Democratic administration enabling a genocide against their own families.
“That’s you. That’s not me. And that’s not who I want to be,” he said.
He drew a historical parallel: Black Americans didn’t accept being sacrificed for Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal, whose Social Security and housing programs were written to exclude most Black workers in order to win Southern votes, and Frederick Douglass pressured and publicly criticized Abraham Lincoln through much of the Civil War, warming to him only late.
The author of The Case for Reparations added, “If we get access to any sort of power, we can’t do what was done to us.”

I know I’ve already said “oh you guys have been doing this for 30 years” but this reads exactly like how people talked in the 2000s about this. Just a total refusal to engage with it on its own terms.

Haley Stevens has never turned down a check from anyone. Despite drafting legislation to curb DTE and Consumers energy from rate hikes, she accepted nearly 100k from them, apparently betraying her own bill.
She has accepted boatloads from Blue Cross Blue Shield as a reward for her opposition to universal healthcare unlike her opponent.
She is diversifying her portfolio by accepting donations from big tech companies to vote for GOP led crypto scam legislation and to litter Michigan with AI data centers.
She has gobbled up tens of millions of outside untraceable super pac money whether in her house race, or notably in this senate race, including an 8 figure amount from UDP, one of AIPAC’s satellite pacs, an organization so important to her she gives a hearty video thank you message to them every year.
Haley Stevens might as well be a formula one car with how many corporate sponsors she has. But she’s Neera Tanden’s friend and she punches left like Tanden so Neera will happily call Abdul El-Sayed a terrorist sympathizer and jacket him with Islamophobic attacks.
A vote for Haley Stevens is a vote for the energy mafia, the health insurance lobby, palantir, and Benjamin Netanyahu. Vote accordingly.
My tweets are personal views. I’ve worked with Haley Stevens in the past and people on here have been dumping unbelievable levels of crap on her for weeks. She’s a super earnest hard working public servant. I defend her from attacks. And I sometimes point out the unbelievable hypocrisy of the attackers.

A rent freeze is almost certainly a net bad, and likely to cause construction to decrease.
People built stabilized housing under the assumption they were supposed to weigh factors fairly, and the Rent Board ignored all the data it’s supposed to consider.
Thousands of stabilized units are still built yearly. We should incentivize people to build more.
These apartments have been kept under inflation for a decade now. A full freeze takes things too far. I hope the courts require otherwise.

What’s missing isn’t the “permanent campaign,” but permanent values. Since 2024, Ezra Klein has been urging Dems to abandon labor and abortion rights. Liberalism has been adrift for so long that Dewey was writing about it in the 1920s. It’s just not a fighting faith.

I'm quoted in this Vox piece about DSA's winning streak. The left basically has a permanent campaign, while we libs have none. That may have been tenable for us in cities when demographics and the national mood were in our favor, but it isn't anymore.

The postwar boom was a historical anomaly only made possible by the destruction of World War II, but its duration convinced generations that this was "normal" capitalism. In fact capitalism is now merely returning to its normal state of chronic crisis and insecurity for workers.
