Prof. Rohini Godbole will be missed most particularly by women in STEM - she was tireless in her dedication to creating an equitable and inclusive space for women in academia. Her indefatigable cheer and enthusiasm was contagious, and sh e is a role model for so many of us.
The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India mourns the loss of Prof. Rohini Godbole, an eminent physicist and ardent advocate for women in STEM.
An elected fellow of all three of India’s National Science Academies—the Indian National Science Academy (@insa_academy ), the Indian Academy of Sciences (@IAScBng ), and the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI)—as well as The World Academy of Sciences (@TWASnews ), Prof. Godbole was also awarded the Padma Shri for her extensive work in particle phenomenology.
As we remember her remarkable life, her commitment to creating a more inclusive scientific community will continue to inspire the future generations.

This year’s medicine laureates Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun studied a relatively unassuming 1 mm long roundworm, C. elegans.
Despite its small size, C. elegans possesses many specialised cell types such as nerve and muscle cells also found in larger, more complex animals, making it a useful model for investigating how tissues develop and mature in multicellular organisms.

Introducing our new audio series, SNPets, created by GSA President E. Jane Hubbard! Read her blog post to learn how you can discover interesting and inspiring perspectives from bright minds in our field—even when you've only got 5 minutes to spare. bit.ly/3HcQLcb

ALT "One of the things that genetics does the biochemistry does not, for example, is it lets the organism tell you what is important. By finding mutations that cause a phenotype, you're having the organism's biology tell you, ' This is something that is critical. This is something that is needed.' –Martin Chalfie for SNPets, GSA
