Given the response, I am lifting my column out of the paywall… 1/2 This evil is driven by envy In the context of the Bondi tragedy, let me start by saying that Australia is not the country I once knew. The Australia I remember during my youth bears little resemblance to the nation that now exists. I am not sure you can even describe us as a nation – we are more like a heterogeneous agglomeration of vested and frequently colliding interests. I think there is a fair case to be made that we have traded away our soul. There is no cohesive national identity. There was, once upon a time, a demonstrably visible national character. We knew what it was to be Australian. We loved our country. Our flag. Our history. Our entrepreneurial and iconoclastic verve. Our disdain of centralised authority. Our willingness to give every person a fair go. Our characteristically intense competitive streak. And our eccentric and larrikin heroes. From Don Bradman to Kerry Packer. But today it is difficult to discern a unifying crusade or common community. There are, to be sure, redoubts here and there. But across this sunburnt land we have emerged as a nation divided. Many will claim that their vision of Australia best represents a universal mission. That they know the true Australia. And that there is a silent majority that agrees with them. But I do not see it. Right now, Australia is a battlefield bloodied by conflicting interests, which this column belaboured seven days ago. The lucky country has become the lazy land, spoilt by endless resource riches and the seemingly bottomless pit of public money that this has bestowed. Our wealth has been relentlessly wasted on pet political projects that serve only to perpetuate the reign of those in power. Financially corrupt the voters to win the next election and then rinse and repeat. Until the money runs out. Australia has become obsessed with the public sector providing answers to its problems. Obsessed with centralised control. Remember the world’s worst lockdowns? Obsessed with censorship: eviscerate parental responsibilities and ban children from access to the internet. Obsessed with revisionism. We don't even give our kids an opportunity to learn from our historical wins and losses. It is airbrushed in the name of trying to create an alternative political reality. Obsessed with cutting down tall poppies. That is, we don't just want equality of opportunity, which is a crucial ideal—we increasingly seek equality of outcomes. A huge amount of the secular racial prejudice projected against Judaism by other creeds and cultures can be attributed to the fact that the Jews have been consistently one of the most successful communities in the countries they have lived in. The intelligence, innovation, and unmatched professional intensity that Judaism nurtures has been a persistent source of envy and polarisation for as long as the faith has existed. Whatever academic pursuit or vocation you inspect, you will find Jews dominating. This is true by design because the community defines itself through a purity of purpose that advocates intellectual and professional excellence. It is a self-selection process that attracts and spawns world-class talent. Yet in a society where you are constantly seeking to manipulate and sate the masses, the ever-tempting reflex is to focus on persecuting the difficult-to-understand anomalies. The exceptions. Those that rank in the 99th percentile. Accordingly, we fall back on handicapping success. We want to regress everyone back to the mean to create an egalitarian world. The Jews are to blame. It’s the "great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity" as Goldman Sachs was once described. Of course, Goldman was founded as a Jewish partnership. In 1968, Sidney Poitier was at a press conference at the height of his career. He made it very clear how he felt about the press. Funny that I had to find this on a discarded film reel with 1000s of books, Microfiche and films. Now you can see it.

WATCH PIERS MORGAN vs. DOUGLAS MURRAY: PIERS MORGAN: Do you not feel that something has to give here, that this has to get resolved somehow, and that the only way to do that is, as with all these situations, you have to eventually compromise in some way? The problem for Netanyahu is that people think he is completely incapable of offering Hxmas any compromise. Therefore, there is no deal. So the families of the hostages are still there, and hundreds of thousands of protesters in Israel are on the streets of Tel Aviv right now. They are of the firm belief that it's his own intractable position on this, which is not going to allow any kind of ceasefire to be achievable. DOUGLAS MURRAY: But there it is again, if I can say so, Piers—it's the same thing. There’s this presumption that it’s Netanyahu who is uncompromising. We end up with this notion because Netanyahu is a democratically elected leader, so it’s assumed that some pressure can be brought to bear on him. In my view, it’s not Netanyahu who’s uncompromising—it’s Hxmas. They could have handed back the hostages last October. They could have chosen not to do any of this. I mean, they could have tried to build a state since 2005 when Israel withdrew from Gaza and handed the place over to them. Hxmas could have used the billions of dollars in aid that British, European, and American taxpayers gave them since 2006. They could have used that money to build up Gaza, to create a thriving, prosperous society. They could have made it a booming Mediterranean paradise. They could have created wealth for their people, but instead, what did they do? They built downwards instead of upwards. They constructed a tunnel network bigger than the London Underground, and they siphoned off the money, just like Yasser Arafat did before them, making themselves rich. Why is Ismail Haniyeh worth billions of dollars? Why is Khaled Meshaal worth billions? Why do their children live like princes in luxury apartments in Doha? Because they took the money from Americans, Brits, and Europeans and kept it for themselves, while leaving the people of Gaza in misery and poverty. Since 2005, there has been a complete counterfactual of what could have happened, but the Hxmas leadership didn’t want that. They’ve openly said they’re willing to use Palestinian children as human shields to manipulate world opinion. These are fanatics. They’re willing to sacrifice their own citizens to turn the world against Israel. Again, how do you negotiate with that? The assumption in the West today is that because we’re so comfortable, we believe peace is the norm and historically expected. But that’s not true. We always think wars end with compromise and coming to the table, to use the cliché. But historically, most wars end because one side wins, and one side loses. And one of the reasons, in my view, why there are endless rounds of conflict in this region is because Israel is never allowed to win, and Hxmas is always allowed to come out even. I think that simply sets up the next round of conflict. If Hxmas comes out of this with any fighting capability, then we will see another round of this war in a few years. So when David Lammy and others say we need a peace deal, I’d ask, on what terms? Everyone wants peace—except for Hxmas and the fanatics. Everyone else wants peace. All those people in the south, the kibbutzniks, the partygoers, and others who were murdered on October 7—they all dreamed of peace with their Palestinian neighbors, their brothers and sisters. Who made that peace impossible? Hxmas, from 2005 to today.

Let’s clear this up once and for all. 1- Criticize the Israeli government? All good. No problem. Not antisemitism. - Deny Israel’s right to exist? Not all good. Big problem. Pure antisemitism. 2- Care about innocent Palestinians? All good. No problem. Not antisemitism. - Claiming Israel is indiscriminately and even intentionally killing innocent civilians? Not all good. Big problem. Pure antisemitism. 3- Calling for an end to violence? All good. No problem. Not antisemitism. - Asking Israel to unilaterally cease fire while Hamas continues to fire rockets and commit terrorism against Israelis? Not all good. Big problem. Pure antisemitism. 4- Wishing for the self determination of the Palestinians after their educational system is reformed and stops spreading Jew hatred? All good. No problem. Not antisemitism. - Chanting about the erasure of Israel from the map (that’s what ‘From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free’ means. No Israel.)? Not all good. Big problem. Pure antisemitism. 5- Investigating the events of October 7th? All good. No problem. Not antisemitism. - Denying Hamas’ October 7th crimes and sexual violence against innocent Jews? Not all good. Big problem. Pure antisemitism. 6- Protesting against Israeli policy? All good. No problem. Not antisemitism. - Attacking Jews or Jewish institutions including synagogues? Not all good. Big problem. Pure antisemitism. The line between legitimate criticism and full blown Jew hatred is a fine one, but a good litmus test is to ask yourself “Is what I am demanding from the Jewish state something I demand from other nations/countries or is this opinion of mine only applicable to the Jews?” Antisemitism is a very real and a very painful thing for Jews worldwide. All of the above forms of antisemitism might seem harmless to you, but I assure you, every one of those things leads directly to verbal and physical violence against Jews. Words matter and when you use your words to spread hate, hate spreads. Let’s not confuse valid constructive criticism with the hatred of Jews. Kapeesh? Oh; and more thing. Don’t kid yourself that antisemites are all low life criminals. As always, they also sit at the highest levels in society and mask their Jew hatred with sophistication. They did it in Germany and they’re doing it today. Today, some of the smartest and most successful people out there have proudly removed their masks and revealed their true face, a face of a person who thinks calling for genocide of the Jewish people is totally ok. It’s not ok. Never was and never will be. 🇮🇱💪✡️

From which river to which sea? “Only 47% of the students who embrace the slogan were able to name the river & the sea. Some of the alternative answers were the Nile & the Euphrates, the Caribbean, the Dead Sea (which is a lake) & the Atlantic…. There’s no shame in being ignorant, unless one is screaming for the extermination of millions.” The good news: students moderated or changed their views significantly once they looked at the map, learned which river & which sea, & what the slogan meant in practice. “Those who hope to encourage extremism depend on the political ignorance of their audiences. It is time for good teachers to join the fray and combat bias with education.” Great piece @WSJ, Dec 5

This is shocking even by the standards of what I have seen here over the past two months. Calling for the genocide of Jewish people is only antisemitic or really any kind of a problem if you actually do it apparently. Horrific. Just horrific.

An open letter from faculty at Columbia University. Signed by 2x more faculty than the prior letter to which this is a forthright and effective rejoinder: "There is no justification for raping and murdering ordinary citizens in front of their families, mutilating babies, decapitating people, using automatic weapons and grenades to hunt down and murder young people at a music festival celebrating peace, burning families alive, kidnapping and taking hostages (including vulnerable populations of elderly, people with disabilities, and young children), parading women hostages in front of chanting crowds, and proudly documenting these nightmarish scenes on social media. We are horrified that anyone would celebrate these monstrous attacks or, as some members of the Columbia faculty have done in a recent letter, try to “recontextualize” them as a “salvo,” as the "exercise of a right to resist" occupation, or as “military action.” We are astonished that anyone at Columbia would try to legitimize an organization that shares none of the University’s core values of democracy, human rights, or the rule of law.  Any civilian loss of life during war is awful but, as colleagues on the faculty acknowledged in the letter mentioned above, the law of war clearly distinguishes between tragic but incidental civilian death and suffering, on one hand, and the deliberate targeting of civilians, on the other. We feel sorrow for all civilians who are killed or suffering in this war, including so many in Gaza. Yet whatever one thinks of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or of Israeli policies, Hamas’s genocidal massacre was an act of terror and cannot be justified, or its true purpose obscured with euphemisms and oblique references. We ask the entire University community to condemn the Hamas attack unambiguously. We doubt anyone would try to justify this sort of atrocity if it were directed against the residents of a nation other than Israel." docs.google.com/document/u/1…
