From the @FT: "Cracks are appearing in America’s debt-laden $10tn AI infrastructure boom as project delays, public backlash and shaky investor confidence bring a reckoning for the data centre build-out underpinning the US economy."
IMO, what makes all these issues even more interesting is that no matter how they evolve, there are significant economic, financial, social, and geopolitical implications

We call on France to exercise restraint when dispersing the freedom fighters on the streets of Paris. These brave warriors for justice must receive immediate humanitarian aid, and their safety must be guaranteed in accordance with international law. Failure to comply will leave us no choice but to bring a case before the ICJ, in close cooperation with that renowned champion of human rights, Afghanistan.

The cycle of violence in France must stop. Israel is calling on BOTH sides to show restraint, and engage in negotiations for a two-state solution.

So negative. The UK establishment HATE innovation.

Christopher Joye brings deep expertise in credit markets, housing economics and fiscal analysis from the RBA, Goldman Sachs, policy advisory roles and managing fixed-income funds. His focus on the current credit squeeze, property correction and spending-driven inflation matches key pressures in Australia's economy right now—elevated CPI, rate hikes and falling dwelling values. Whether that translates to effective leadership in the Treasury portfolio depends on alignment with the preferred policy mix.

Taking the quarterly average unemployment rate it comes in a 4.6%, well above the RBA's forecast. This will require the Bank to revise upwards its forecasts in November. Its evolved thinking will have to be fulfilling its inflation mandate while keeping the unemployment rate as low as possible, 'full' employment is seemingly not consistent with inflation at the mid-point of the target band.

Why this tech boom is different!
In this episode of Straight Talk, I sit down with economist Chris Joye for round five, a frank conversation about government spending, immigration, productivity and Australia’s economic future.
Chris argues that Australia’s challenges run deeper than events in the Middle East. He examines what he describes as $660 billion in additional government debt since 2022, the pressure population growth is placing on housing and infrastructure, and an expanding public service alongside declining private sector productivity. He also questions the Reserve Bank’s “narrow path” strategy, whether political influence has shaped its approach to inflation, and the cost to Australian households.
I then ask Chris what needs to change: how to rein in spending, lift productivity and get Australia’s economy back on track.

The FED and RBA will do back-to back rate hikes.
Looking increasingly likely I’ll be right with this prediction.
Futures markets say no (for now).
If they don’t the long end will spike.

U.S. INFLATION SURGES TO 3.7%, BEATING EXPECTATIONS
September CPI rose 0.6% MoM, matching forecasts, while annual inflation hit 3.7% vs. 3.6% expected.
Core CPI climbed 0.3% vs. 0.2% expected, with annual core inflation reaching 2.6% vs. 2.5% forecast.
Gasoline prices surged 9.1%, energy jumped 5.2%, and real earnings fell 0.5%, highlighting renewed pressure on consumers.
Super hot core CPI for September coming in at 0.3% - only a tiny number of economists picked it - mapping to core PCE of 0.3% to 0.4%. If the Fed is serious about its inflation fight, it should hike in October - it is way behind curve...

Great pod Chis 👊 Must-watch. Chris Joye lays out the real damage: $660bn extra debt since 2022, ballooning public sector, collapsing productivity, and a recession we didn’t have to have.
His fix is the one politicians won’t touch claw back the overfunded Future Fund, slash spending (including NDIS), pause the migration surge until housing/infrastructure catch up, and stop taxing aspiration to fund an ever-growing bureaucracy.
This is the economic vandalism debate Australia needs. Listen 👇
