A lot of people wonder what we do in the offseason, here’s one example, we screen for pre harvest sprouting. While producers don’t always experience Phs conditions, it’s imperative that the varieties we release aren’t susceptible. @arthuragronomy @NPWheat
And just like that our off season/counter season nursery is planted. This is just over 1/2 of the material. @arthuragronomy @NPWheat
It may be hard to see, but there is a couple hand harvest sickle crews in this photo. Between yesterday and today we will have harvested 4600 head rows. That means by end of day we’ll be out of the field. Special thanks to @arthuragronomy for lending a hand! @NPWheat
Tagging rows is hard on the back, but means the end is near. ~40k head rows evaluated and ~4700 selected, just shy of 12% S.I. Normally 15%, we had a bulge of material at this stage, discipline is key, material ebbs and flows at different stages. @arthuragronomy @NPWheat
A wonderful sight. Cutting 1st and 2nd year yield trial experiments @NPWheat @arthuragronomy
Harvested our SPY (Spring Pre Yield) nursery. ~3500 entries screened for Fhb, tan spot, BLS, and other traits. Lines moving forward to 1st year yield testing if they pass quality. Also confirming solid stem phenotype in a handful of populations is cool. @NPWheat @arthuragronomy
Sawfly found in Perley, MN. This is our increase and P&M (purity and multiplication). Cutting at a low incidence and severity, but present. It looks like the larvae died and we don’t understand why. @NPWheat @arthuragronomy
Finished row selections today with a moderate natural leaf rust infection throughout the nursery. The first 3 are sibs segregating for Lr resistance, the last is a susceptible check. The Puccinia Pathway is still present. @NPWheat @arthuragronomy
A very nice crop at Hoople, as well as some lodging. First pic is FG Heiner (on the left) with 2 elite experimental lines. The 2nd picture is SY Valda and the 3rd Faller (checks). @NPWheat @arthuragronomy
