Thank you @ClarkBuilds for assembling the boards at the Canal Park Ice Rink for @FriendsofFDIA. Now we just need the weather to drop so the ice can be made. Fingers crossed that the rink will be open for skating on Nov. 15! ⛸️#DistrictOfPlay

(1/2) Many people know the doors to @FriendsofFDIA did not always exist in proximity to the steps. Once you reached the top, perhaps an all out sprint ensued to the old front doors, which stood about 50 feet away. Or, you slowly walked to catch your breath. The Fort is about...

What a cool 🧊 weekend for our DPR Supreme Teens. Friday, we skated the @FriendsofFDIA ice arena and Saturday took a trip to @skilibertymtn for snow tubing on the slopes. #WhereFunHappens different #MorethanRec

There was a belief that kids East of the River deserve to have fun on ice
So Fort Dupont was created in the 70s. A Hall of fame hockey coach, trailblazing Black hockey teams, Olympic speed skaters, and countless hours of DC kids at the rink followed.
Now it can’t be funded?
FDIA Family, let's work together and get our new rink! Here's how you can help fdia.org/newrink (2/2)

@mayorvincegray Ward 7 deserve better than this, Mayor. Why are you denying east of the river an updated ice rink? Did you see the Winter Olympic?? There was at most 2-4 black Americans, and one of them started out at Fort DuPont Ice Arena @FriendsofFDIA

Ask your reps to support an affordable two rink solution that benefits skaters all over the area and particularly kids of Ward 7 and 8
I sent letters (and pucks) w/ @FriendsofFDIA today to...

Wow: In an open letter, the board of the Friends of Fort Dupont Ice Arena say the long-standing facility will not be closing this week as planned for a new rink to be built. Board members say D.C. has mismanaged the construction process and they worry the rink would never reopen.

What would you do as mayor, @RobertWhite_DC?

A new ice rink in Washington, DC's Ward 7 has been in the works for years. I was excited that they were so close to starting construction. What a disappointing turn of events. fdia.org/newrink/
