Arragffmh! "Do you do volume?" Almost every project I speak with. No, it's not our job as a market maker to 'do volume'. We provide and manage quality liquidity in your order books - that's it. "Why do you ask if we 'do volume'"? "Because the exchanges we want to list on require us to guarantee volume numbers as part of the deal." Ah, now we see the crux of the issue. Exchanges - stop doing this, it leads to all sorts of bad behaviours and you should know better.

For the quotes that you got hit, are you trying to cancel those orders? It's a different problem if you have a good theo but slow to cancel vs a bad theo in quoting.

I feel like some people talk about quantitative/systematic/automated trading as if they are all the same thing, which is not true, and blurring these lines causes confusion for people who want to enter the industry.

our investment approach is predicated on the idea that markets are homoskedastic seekers of chaos. we leverage tools from quantum control theory and stochastic entropy dynamics to harness asymmetric risk reward opportunities. attached is the prospectus for our covered call ETF

I guess in the hedge fund biz you have clients to tell, that you have upside volatility and downside volatility. In prop trading firms there are no clients, so we have just volatility. Can imagine bosses if I told them, that we are experiencing a bit of downside volatility. 😅

In hindsight, given @carolinecapital’s testimony, it is clear that Doug hit the nail on the head on the day everything blew up (amazing foresight on his part given that we didn’t know about stupid stuff, e.g. BTMX)

16/ Imagine a casino where all the games were +EV, except the house doesn’t actually have money to cash out the chips. Nobody would notice because instead of cashing out, they’d just keep pouring bee funds into the money machine. FTX was a ponzi targeting trading firms

I've read and analyzed the book “Going Infinite” by Michael Lewis about SBF. I'll try to show you interesting quotes, problems, lies, and why the fundamental problem was that SBF was a complete chronic liar. I’ve worked on it for a few days and it'll be a big thread. 1/43 🧵

GM General crypto rule: The moment you start to really believe in notions of 'community' and 'this is more than just price/speculation' Is usually around the time you get an anus-ripping red candle delivered straight to your front door Have a blessed weekend 🌞

I think a useful question to ask to generate ideas for improving a systematic strategy is “what would you do differently if you knew everyone had the same alphas/features/edges that you do”?

Footnote 2: why ever do you need to be in continuous time? Prove the validity of your approach in discrete time. When it fails, you’ll see that it’s not because you failed to find the viscosity solution to an HJB equation, but because it’s conceptually flawed. Now move on.
