This October, I’m choosing to give back. ❤️ On 11 October, through Oge’s Haven Initiative, we’ll be supporting 200 teenage girls with menstrual hygiene education, sanitary products and practical skills like liquid soap making, disinfectant and other income-generating skills. We’ll also provide basic health checks for elderly men and women in the community. You can support with money, sanitary pads, medical supplies, materials for the skills training, essential items or your time and expertise. My birthday is 29 October, but this is a celebration I want to share with others. 🤍 If you can help, please reach out. Every contribution counts. 🌸 Please retweet/Quote for wider reach also count as help 🙏🙏

I just got my second 5.0 in OOU and it feels great, but I missed a first class in this B.Sc degree by a little margin, though I was on a first class in my years 1 & 2. I’ve always been an high flyer student, one of two best graduating students in King’s College Lagos and won the KCOBANA (Old boys North America $1,000 Scholarship) in my set, topped my primary school, won multiple competitions, won scholarships, cash prizes and all that. I was on a first class grade in my 100 and 200 level, with ample effort. I attended all lectures and was the assistant course representative for the course I studied (Industrial Chemistry). 300 level first semester, I got an opportunity to advance my membership in the Jupiter community and become the African Growth and Marketing Lead but it would cost me being unavailable in school. Why? I’d have to come up with campaigns, travel to different universities for irl activations and events, set up events across cities and towns, and get the numbers and volume up! I once got Jupiter Exchange over $45 million dollars volume in a single month! I had to pick between my academics and my finances that particular month, it was a sacrifice I had to make. I chose my finances, though looking back, I could really have gotten and kept both, but the spectator is never as wise as the man in the arena, right? I travelled to about eight different countries in one year, and traveled all across the country (Nigeria) to tens of states, all sponsored by myself! My income increased as my salary, exposure, connections and network grew vastly, steadily and speedily! I was unavailable that semester due to my travels, and to avoid an extra year, I had to come take the exam still. My CA was 0/30 in ten courses, I had 10/30 in two courses as they were virtual tests, I can remember writing one of them on a plane in Doha 🇶🇦 , I remember writing the other in Addis Ababa Ethiopia 🇪🇹. I had to fight for 70/70 marks in my exams, for course work I had not even studied. I wasn’t even available during the lectures! I just had to read up 3-4 months of deep chemistry work in about a week! It was that semester when we were taught about Spectroscopy, and the mechanism of Aldol and Crossed Aldol Condensation in Organic Chemistry and some other broad concepts! I’m the type who goes into the exam hall fully depending on just GOD and myself. I’d never make the move to first ask another person what the answer is. 9.9/10 times you ever see me having a chat, I’m the one helping out. I knew I was cooked when I wrote those exams… it was an information overload for my brain and I sometimes went blank in the hall. While preparing, I didn’t sleep for a week, was hopping from tutorials to night marathon classes, though they helped but it took a toll on me in the hall… I’d go blank and only remember fractions, did my exams and left the hall unhappy. It was a trying time for me! after the exams, I promised myself I would never be found in such a position again! Results came out, I had no carryovers, but wasn’t proud of my performance knowing I could have done way better! My CGPA dropped to a second class upper and I’ve only been able to maintain it! The semester after that, I got my first 5.0! and two semesters later, I have another 5.0 If I had taken my time to properly evaluate what decision I was making, and how it could affect the trajectory of my career (I have a desire to go into oil and gas), I’d probably not have sacrificed my precious first class. I graduated with a first class financially, but not academically. I’ve been grinding before I got into 100 level, a lot of responsibilities and all that, wasn’t exactly easy pairing it with my academics. beyond it all, I’m grateful to GOD ALMIGHTY still, because he alone deserves to be praised! life in this country is so choked ngl! Thank you for reading.

Not ashamed to admit that I still haven’t figured out how to use AI to optimise my workflow and productivity. A lot of what I do is still manual, powered by experience, instinct, and me just raw-dogging my way through it. But I’ll catch up. And when I do, y’all better be afraid.

career advice for people trying to break into crypto: - go to events, but skip the lines to talk to "top" folks. toly is a genuinely open and helpful dude, but he has 10,000 people in line to talk to him. instead find the "head of ___" person at the protocols you like. they have space to help you, are always on the lookout for talent, and you might actually be able to add value for them. - commit visibly to one ecosystem. @solana is the best place to do it, but even if you go elsewhere, double down. the industry is still tribal (for better or worse) and reputation compounds most when you stay put. - stop cold dming. mostly a waste of time. get warm intros. if you can't find a path to a warm intro, reconsider reaching out until you have one. - be the node in your city. run the meetup, host the dinner, start the group chat. organizers meet everyone by default. this is the singlest greatest "hack" to building your reputation, but no one does it because its time consuming, difficult, and has the potential for embarrassment if no one shows up. - pick a lane. the industry is finally big enough to reward specialists. go deep on a sector (be the tokenized fund expert) or a skill (be the incentive design person). "interested in crypto" is not a lane. - actually use the products. daily. most applicants have never touched the thing they want to work on, and it shows in the first five minutes. this should be obvious, but for some reason it is not. (obligatory shill: using @JupiterExchange is the best way to build up knowledge of multiple products at once) - proof of work beats resume, always. a dune dashboard, a tool, a teardown of a protocol's onboarding flow. one artifact that circulates does more than 100 applications. - hunt bounties and grant programs. @SuperteamEarn is the best on-ramp on solana. it pays you while you build the proof-of-work. - optimize for the team, not the token. every good team has a diaspora, and it hires. - ~1 hour a day on twitter drafting real replies. not "gm". showing up thoughtfully in other people's replies is the cheapest reputation you will ever buy. - get involved when it's quiet. bear markets are the best entry points. everyone else applies at the top. and obviously: join @superteam + talk to @SuperteamTalent

This year, I dedicated around 100 hours of my scarce free time outside my 9 to 5 to facilitate a 12-week research mentorship for @ProjectSinan, bridging a web3 or Internet Capital Markets (ICM) practice with a traditional Nigerian sector, written for a named decision-maker who could act on it. Their research turned up findings I think deserve wider attention than a course grade gives them. First, I want to say a huge congratulations to the mentees who carried this all the way through to a published capstone report. @SB_Wryta , @Esimuda, @Hadeezarrh1, @faithy_danniel @Armstrongofdefi, @Peter_Favourr, @Ef__e, @Hogwartsofweb3 and @Forbe500. I also want to appreciate @RalAndrewTalks, Lead, Project Sinan, for the seamless execution of the programme and @Harri_obi, Lead, @SuperteamNG, for the opportunity. In this article, I cover what they found, in their own data, and who I think should actually be reading each one. linkedin.com/pulse/we-traine…

Super proud of my 11 mentees who are presenting their capstone projects today! It’s amazing everything they’ve learned over this 4-month research mentorship. I can’t wait to see the impact they’ll have in the ecosystem. They’re highly intelligent, enthusiastic, curious, resourceful and highly motivated. I’d be happy to make a recommendation for any orgs that need a research intern or associate. @SuperteamNG @ProjectSinan

For the Project Sinan final capstone project, my teammates and I investigated how small-business owners currently handle cross-border supplier payments and what conditions would drive them to adopt stablecoins for these transactions. The decision-maker was a Solana merchant payments startup that needed to know whether to target small-business owners as an early adopter segment or start with a more formal business segment. Using a qualitative exploratory method, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 13 active small-business importers across Lagos, Abuja, Anambra, and Edo states. After 15 weeks of learning about research (read: product and market research) and using the capstone project to put into practice what we learnt, my teammates and I presented our findings and recommendations today 🥹 I cannot wait for you guys to read the entire report! I’m grateful for the experience I’ve garnered over the past 3 months. Thank you @IwalolaSobowale, for graciously teaching us and making research fun. I have learnt about research at least four times in my lifetime — in primary 5, a 300-level course, Solana Turbine, and now Project Sinan — and yours proved the most enjoyable. I’m glad our paths crossed. Thank you, @ProjectSinan for the opportunity. And to my teammates @Hogwartsofweb3 and @Forbe500, I had a swell time working with you guys. Even with the odds against us and tight time constraints, we conquered. I can’t wait to see the amazing things we all accomplish with our newfound research knowledge. It’s only up from here! And oh, I am officially a trained product and market researcher! 🤭

Dear Anonymous, I spent my entire university life at ABU Zaria hitting back to back first class GPA for 6 semesters in Political Science. My very first GPA was 4.79/5.00 which was the overall best in the whole faculty of social science consisting of over 600 students. I maintained it for almost my entire university life. Unfortunately, In the first semester of my final year, my CGPA dropped to 4.47 exactly like you, with just one semester to go (see my pinnned tweet). I needed a 5.00 GPA in the final semester including research project to achieve my dream of graduating with a first class and breaking the record in a program that no one believed first class was possible. I was stuck between giving up to avoid last minute heartbreak or try to break a longstanding record as first class in political science was impossible for over 40years and hitting 5.00 CGPA in final semester was something students used to say only God could achieve. The two final year courses were enough hell, but I also needed ‘A’ in research project which further complicated things. Hundreds have tried, Hundreds have failed. People used to mock me in the library saying “haba scholar, in the end it’s just second class upper” just like those who tried before me. However, I remained focused and locked in with hardwork and prayers. I had to travel twice to my village, stayed for weeks without electricity just to get data for my final year project. I stayed back in school during first semester holiday while everyone else went home to their families. During the dark days of no light on campus, I used ABU streetlights to study outside. Sometimes, I entered the bush behind the hostel to sit around trees to study during exams when libraries got overcrowded (until snake killed one old woman). Those who were close to me said I was going crazy and nicknamed me “books”. Today, I am proud to tell you that I have a record breaking first class degree from ABU which has changed my life forever. I featured in several newspapers & blogs for achieving the impossible, bagged a fully funded EU scholarship which resulted in me bagging two more first class degrees from the UK & Netherlands and currently working as the only black Analyst in my team at a silicon valley tech giant with a less than 1% global job acceptance rate. All these dreams were possible because I didn’t give up I didn’t listen to people I worked hard and prayed and the almighty lifted me in his blessings. I hope my story motivates you and others like you who are considering giving up. And if you see this, please send me a DM I would like to know & support you personally.

On Wednesday, I interviewed one of my target research participants, and she recounted a devastating experience with a payment method she used to send money to her supplier. I almost started comforting her. But then, I remembered the Interview and Unbiased Moderation class, where my sensei @IwalolaSobowale taught that as a trained researcher, you must remain neutral and avoid using words that signal approval. So, I kept my sympathy to myself. Many such cases. However, I noticed that I have immensely improved at conducting interviews compared to the very first time I did one. I’ve also experienced firsthand how arduous recruiting target research participants and getting them to partake in an interview is — mind you, it looks easy on paper. And if anything, I like that I’m putting into practice what I learnt in the @ProjectSinan research cohort.

First off, you may have an idea about how a situation can be just from hearing someone who has gone through it talk about it, but you’d truly never know what it's actually like until you experience it first-hand. When @IwalolaSobowale taught us recruitment and sampling in week 8, one of the things we had to keep at the back of our minds was that recruiting target research participants isn’t easy. My teammates and I just didn’t know how hard it would be until we experienced it very recently. How did we approach these traders, you may ask? We started in a friendly, chatty way before proceeding to explain our actual mission. However, they were not receptive at all and refused to grant us an audience. Which begs the question: Why are Nigerians, specifically open-market traders, hostile towards someone carrying out research?
For the @ProjectSinan research cohort final capstone project, my teammates and I chose a topic pertaining to how open market traders currently handle cross-border payments and their adoption of stablecoins for these transactions.  It has, however, not been a smooth ride — we’ve lost our money, time, energy, and a bit of sanity.
