1/5 What if an existing rheumatoid arthritis drug could help target the plaque biology that drives heart disease, not just cholesterol? Using a human arterial-wall gene network and NIH LINCS drug data, we identified auranofin as a top candidate for atherosclerosis.

New research from @UHN’s @PMunkCardiacCtr shows that the protein ERG helps protect blood vessels from changes that drive atherosclerosis—the buildup of plaque in the arteries. Findings could point to future therapeutic strategies to protect arteries. 🔗: uhnresearch.ca/news/9-04-202…

Reposting - our new story - now available for all! Open access. nature.com/articles/s41467-0… Thank you @NatureComms for the incredible editorial work and review process. Hard work that led to a transformative paper! Congrats team @SRBotts @kat_howe @FishLab_UHN
#EndothelialDysfunction is a critical driver of #atherosclerosis, but how can EC identity be preserved to limit plaque progression? Thrilled to share my final PhD work in @NatureComms: bit.ly/4fxmpl7 @kat_howe @FishLab_UHN @PMunkCardiacCtr @UHN_Research @UofTVascular

Glad to share our recent paper published @ScienceAdvances ETV2 is the initiator of the offense, and TAL1 is the setter; together they sweep through the field, and neither can be missed. What's even more intriguing is that its function is not entirely conserved across species.

Exciting work by @FishLab_UHN using #cardioncology cohorts @PMunkCardiacCtr / combined blood biomarkers approach to predict #CTRCD @JACCJournals even before cancer therapy. Reach out if u have banked blood for additional external validation.@ICOSociety @CCardiacON @UHN @UofT
Excited to share our paper jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.jacca…. Together with @dineshpmcc1 and led by Dakota Gustafson and Priya Mistry, we show that elevated levels of inflammatory and endothelial activation biomarkers before treatment can predict cancer therapy-related cardiac dysfunction.
