Central Illinois on farm NREC research shows that cereal rye after corn before soybeans and no fall N ahead of corn reduced farm tile nitrates by 40%. Where is the worst place to store nitrogen for 6 months? In the soil over drainage tiles!

If you suspect your grain may have quality issues this harvest, don’t put it in storage before testing it. ⚠️
Crop insurance has specific requirements for when and how grain going into on-farm storage needs to be tested.
Here’s what the testing process looks like for grain going to the elevator and grain going into on-farm storage. hubs.li/Q04z2Rd70

This is a hell of a thing to pull out of a soybean field.
51 large Burlington chert blades, stacked together and deliberately buried in northeast Missouri. They’re the kind archaeologists call North blades… Hopewell-era bifaces that could move enormous distances through exchange networks before ever becoming finished tools.
One turned up first.
Then they found the other 50 sitting together about four inches below the field.
Somebody put these there around 2,000 years ago.

With anhydrous near $908/ton heading into 2027, your nitrogen rate matters. On central Illinois farms with highly productive soils (2020–2025), the best returns came at 151–200 lbs N/acre. Farms applying 200+ lbs averaged $22-36/acre less. @ilcorn

2/ Moving to MRTN rates this year may have larger impacts on #profitability, as nitrogen #fertilizer #prices are high. @PCM_Farming farmers know about MRTNs but average application rates suggest many farmers have chosen not to adopt those rates.
