Already getting coverage on our new report
New report from @FarmForward reveals that @WholeFoods 365 chicken mostly comes from @PerdueFarms slaughterhouses that are highly contaminated with virulent antibiotic resistant salmonella. Nice of WF to charge a huge premium for the products.

One of the meat industry’s most powerful tools has been humanewashing. After over a decade of pressure from advocacy groups, including us, in 2024 USDA rewrote its guidelines. In our report, we explore what’s changed since then. Short answer: not much. farmforward.com/publications…

A thorough, well-reported look at how American cattle went from open range to 200,000 bodies packed on one square mile of concrete. The Blackshirt feedlot in Nebraska shows what the industry has been building toward for 70 years. kiowacountypress.net/content…

Great thread about why grazing cattle isn't a climate solution. @McDonalds talking about regen beef is the same as @exxonmobil talking about DAC—it’s a way to avoid regulation not a serious euro to reduce emissions
The science shows regenerative grazing simply doesn't work And I get it, it's a captivating well funded story ($200M from McD's otw), & it's easier to convince many that tweaks are all that's needed vs. systemic changes away from beef 🧵8 reasons why this won't make beef eco.

Iowa has the most factory farms of any state which = the most manure. Nitrates get into drinking water and are linked to higher cancer risk. @Sentient_Media mapped the manure output of all 10,830 of Iowa's factory farms. sentientmedia.org/five-takea…

Beef production has been the largest driver of deforestation this century. Over the last two decades, around 128 million hectares of forest have been cleared to make way for agriculture and forest plantations. That’s an area five times the size of the United Kingdom. What has driven this deforestation? A recent paper estimated the contribution of different agricultural products over the last few decades. In the chart, you can see the breakdown. Beef production has been the largest driver by far, contributing over 40% of the total. This has mostly been the clearing of forest for grazing pasture, especially across Brazil and other countries in Latin America. Oilseeds — mostly soy and oil palm — were the second-largest driver, again concentrated in Latin America for soy and in Indonesia and Malaysia for palm oil. While deforestation for palm oil was high in the early 2000s and 2010s, it has fallen a lot in recent years. Forest plantations have been a large driver of deforestation in North America and East Asia. Deforestation for most other products — including cereals, roots and tubers, and cash crops like cocoa and coffee — has been concentrated in Africa, where yields have not grown quickly enough to offset rising demand. New IRS guidelines just made it easier for factory farms to cash in on their own manure, AKA biogas. From our exec. director: "The tax code doesn't distinguish a bad actor cleaning up from a bad actor being rewarded for having been bad for decades." thenewlede.org/2026/09/45z-a…

Big news: The Senate Ag Committee just advanced the Farm Bill WITHOUT the Save Our Bacon Act. Sen. Joni Ernst tried to add it—legislation that could wipe out state protections and allow the pork industry to return to confining mother pigs in gestation crates so tiny they can’t even turn around. Imagine spending month after month trapped between metal bars, unable to take a few steps or turn your body around. We stopped it today. But this fight isn’t over.

There's more than enough data now. Our latest report found that since 2014, those strains jumped from 25% to 68% of what's found in chicken. That's certainly not progress like USDA claims. Read more here: marlerblog.com/case-news/les…

In 2020, Rick Schiller, Steven Romes, the Porter family, Food & Water Watch, the Consumer Federation of America, and Consumer Reports petitioned USDA to declare the most dangerous salmonella strains adulterants. USDA denied it in 2022, citing "insufficient data."

You might've heard about the Save Our Bacon Act. Turns out that the main group lobbying for it--Natl. Pork Producers Council--has taken $66M from a farmer fund intended to promote pork, & which legally cannot be used for lobbying. 40% of the $66M hasn't been previously reported.
