Pretty serious. One may disagree with Sohail Afridi on many counts. Until the other day he was elected CM of province. Alleged enforced disappearance of CM is too serious to be ignored even by political opponents. Condemnable, Explanation needed.
In a petition before the Peshawar High Court, Sohail Afridi’s brother alleges that the KP chief minister was detained at the CM House on October 11 and later moved to an undisclosed location.
His whereabouts remain unknown.
Government officials have yet to confirm on record where he is being held.
A reminder: Afridi is the elected chief minister of a province.

PRESS STATEMENT
Legal Team of Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha
Islamabad | 5 October 2026
We begin by expressing our gravest concern over the deteriorating health of Hadi Ali Chattha, who during incarceration has been diagnosed with hypertension and diabetes and is not receiving the consistent and adequate medical attention that his conditions require while incarcerated. Despite repeated requests of the family and lawyers, jail authorties are not sharing details of Hadi’s medication. We fear that if this incarceration continues under these conditions, Hadi may develop serious and potentially permanent health complications. The State has a direct duty of care towards every person in its custody and will bear responsibility for any deterioration in his health.
What is happening to Imaan and Hadi can no longer be viewed as a series of procedural lapses. It is our considered position that these delays are mala fide, deliberate and calculated to prolong their incarceration, and amount to a subversion of the relief and protections afforded by the Supreme Court.
On 5th October, 2026, bail hearing in Imaan & Hadi’s case was fixed before the Anti-Terrorism Court. The Investigating Officer did not appear before the Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad and the prosecution failed to produce the case record. The DSP informed the Court that the Investigating Officer had travelled to Gilgit-Baltistan. The matter has consequently been adjourned until 13 October 2026.
Every such delay has a very real consequence: Imaan and Hadi remain behind bars. They continue to be denied meaningful and confidential access to their legal counsel, undermining their ability to instruct their lawyers and effectively exercise their constitutional right to a fair trial and due process.
Given the pattern we have witnessed, we have serious apprehensions about what will happen on 13th October. We fear that the bail proceedings will again not be allowed to conclude and that, even if relief is granted, attempts may be made to re-arrest Imaan and Hadi under some other pretext in order to perpetuate their detention. Such conduct would represent an abuse of the criminal justice process and an attempt to defeat judicial oversight through successive detention.
We have clear instructions from the families of Imaan and Hadi that should any harm come to either of them, or should their unlawful incarceration be deliberately prolonged, we intend to pursue all available legal remedies, including the institution of criminal proceedings against officials responsible for unlawful acts or omissions.
We further put the Federal Government on notice. In the view of the families and legal team, responsibility for the continued treatment of Imaan and Hadi ultimately rests at the highest levels of government. We therefore hold Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif politically and legally accountable for ensuring that the constitutional rights, physical safety and due process protections of Imaan and Hadi are respected, and reserve the right to pursue appropriate proceedings against any person whose conduct is found to have contributed unlawfully to their continued detention or harm.
This is no longer simply a question of adjournments, but whether constitutional guarantees, orders of the superior judiciary, and the most basic protections of due process can be rendered meaningless through deliberate procedural obstruction.
We demand immediate compliance with the orders of the superior judiciary, and an end to all attempts to prolong Imaan & Hadi’s incarceration through procedural delay or successive cases.
Legal Team of Imaan Mazari-Hazir & Hadi Ali Chattha

HRCP deplores the mounting arrests and preventive detention of PTI workers, lawmakers and leaders ahead of the party's planned protest march. Reports indicate that scores of workers, including women, have been arbitrarily detained, with some families claiming that they have no information as to the whereabouts of their relatives.
It is incumbent on the state to uphold the right to peaceful assembly for all citizens. Pre-emptive mass detention and restrictions on freedom of movement cannot be justified as proportionate or necessary. Moreover, repeated blanket restrictions, including the imposition of Section 144, are an affront to democratic principles. We urge the government to de-escalate political tensions by resuming a purposeful dialogue with the opposition and to immediately release those who have been arbitrarily detained.
A highly informative post by @AinnieAS on who initially built the Lahore fort & how it was reshaped by successive Mughal rulers into a towering monument evoking mixed feelings today. It is also part of history that Gen Zia turned it into torture cell for political prisoners.
Lahore Fort was rebuilt by Malik Ayaz Ghazni; adorned by Akbar and his successors
According to securely documented history Lahore fort was built long before Mughals. Records say 1st Ghaznavid governor of Lahore Malik Ayaz rebuilt the fort and its walls (Ian Talbot &Tahir Kamran,2017) which is backed by the archaeological excavation report of Department of Archaeology and Museums Government of Pakistan 1959.
Who built it originally???
In the said excavation a gold coin from Ghaznavid period and occupation levels much older than the Ghaznavid period( pre Muslim era); a roughly 12feet high mud brick wall was recorded. Archaeologists regard it as the fortress which was attacked by Mehmud of Ghazni during his invasion.
Akbar brought transformation to the fort and turned it into an extraordinary monument. He shaped the fort with the use of baked brick and red sand stone:that gave birth to richly embellished and adorned palaces and courts at the fort.
Jahangir added more decoration and a striking feature as Picture Wall. Picture Wall is a fine piece of Art with glazed tiles, mosaic work, geometric designs, courtly scenes, flora and fauna.
Shah Jahan brought white marble- built Sheesh Mehal, Naulakha Pavillion, Moti masjid, mirror work and petra-dura into the heart of the fort.
Aurangzeb gave gigantic and monumental the Alamgiri Gate facing Badshahi Mosque.
Later, it became royal residence of Ranjit Singh and then came under the use of British.

Heartbreaking and terrifying development
Imaan and Hadi sent to judicial custody by an anti-terrorism court for 14 days for being part of an “unlawful assembly” the same day the SC suspended their atrocious PECA sentences and ordered their release on bail
A tyrannical state relishing its cruelty
By rearresting @ImaanZHazir
& @AdvHadiali at night from jail after SC granted them bail in the day is a declaration by the regime that Constitution, Courts, law, justice & morality means nothing. Disgustingly shameful.
Retribution in the fullness of time is the law of nature.
The FIR from last year which was used for extension of illegal incarceration of @ImaanZHazir & @AdvHadiali last night. Note that ATA clause added last
minute by hand to enable bringing them before ATCourt! Seriously such blood sucking vengeance being done on 2 human rights lawyers who fight in courts for the rights of the oppressed, the marginalised, the poor!
Congratulations to @ImaanZHazir , @AdvHadiali for steadfastness.
Congrats to SC for course-correction.
Congrats to lawyers, HR defenders, rights activists for the quiet declaration that prison walls could not isolate Imaan & Hadi & that the conscience of society was watching
The Supreme Court has granted bail to human rights lawyer @ImaanZHazir and her husband, advocate Hadi Ali Chattha, pending the Islamabad High Court’s final decision in the case.
The couple was sentenced to a combined 17 years in January over charges linked to social media posts under cybercrime laws.
@UsamaKhilji @ShireenMazari1
Congratulations to Hon SC for course-correction of the judicial process after its directions of May 12 to decide suspension applications in 2 weeks not heeded.
But let it not be seen as charity.
It is restoration of liberty that should never have been withheld for so long.
PAKISTAN: The Supreme Court's order today granting bail to human rights lawyers Imaan-Mazari Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha, and the suspension of their sentence, is a welcome step and a long overdue relief towards undoing immense injustice against them. Imaan and Hadi have been unlawfully imprisoned for nearly eight months as a result of their human rights work.
Amnesty International urges the authorities to immediately and unconditionally release them, quash their sentences and ensure that no new charges are brought against them to unlawfully deny them their right to liberty.
SC order today would be cited whenever the judicial handling of the Imaan-Hadi case and prolonged failure to decide it would be mentioned by a future chronicler to the chagrin of many۔ Congratulations

Congrats۔
Grave questions about due process, fair trial, denial of opportunity to complete cross exam of prosecution witnesses, lack of access to counsel while in custody، fleeting appearance by video link judgement despite transfer application، brought no glory to trial court۔

HRCP strongly condemns the decision to rusticate and repatriate Afghan students—including women—already enrolled in medical and dental colleges in Pakistan, as well as to bar new admissions. This is no longer simply an education policy; it is also a humanitarian crisis affecting young people whose education, safety and futures are at immediate risk. In Lahore alone, students report that around 100 Afghan medical and dental students may be affected, including an estimated 20–40 women. Some students have now approached HRCP seeking not only legal and institutional support but also safe shelter, underscoring the gravity and immediacy of the situation.
We call on the government urgently to uphold the principle of non-refoulement. Given the well-documented risks faced by Afghans returning to Afghanistan—and particularly by women—no student should be forcibly returned without an individual assessment of the risks they face. Pakistan’s security concerns and strained relations with Afghanistan cannot justify collectively punishing students. The repatriation orders must be suspended immediately, the affected students’ enrolment restored, and urgent arrangements made for those requiring protection and shelter.
Finally allowed entry along with Tahira Abdullah & @UsamaKhilji
thanks to the intercession of security incharge Registrar's Office. Thank you #OwaisulHassan
Standing at the gate of IHC to enter for witnessing proceedings today in Imaan Mazari case but not allowed. If Court proceedings supposedly are open, why stop me.
PAKISTAN: Human rights lawyers Imaan Mazari-Hazir and Hadi Ali Chattha remain behind bars for more than seven months while their appeals languish in Pakistan's courts. Meanwhile, there are concerns about Imaan's worsening health and access to adequate medical care.
No one should be imprisoned for peacefully expressing their views.
📢 Demand their immediate and unconditional release and access to urgent healthcare.

Accused can be sentenced to death without knowing the judge, the prosecutor, the defence lawyer & witnesses against him. Unnamed judge can't be asked to recuse himself. A BS 20 officer decides secret trial & CJ LHC is only informed. This is no court, no due process, no justice.
HRCP expresses concern over the passage of the Punjab Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2026, which allows a government-designated officer, whose identity remains confidential, to declare cases ‘special security cases’, after which the identities of judges, prosecutors, police officers, witnesses and defence counsel may be withheld. However, the Bill does not adequately define the circumstances in which these extraordinary powers may be invoked, creating scope for abuse against ordinary citizens, political opponents or protesters in the name of security.
While protecting judicial and investigative personnel from genuine threats is legitimate, the need for such sweeping measures is not established. The secrecy they impose raises serious concerns under Articles 9, 10A and 14 of the Constitution and Article 14 of the ICCPR. A wrongly accused person could be unable to effectively challenge the evidence or proceedings. The Bill also reflects a broader pattern of invoking security justifications to expand state power at the expense of fundamental rights.
We call for the Bill to be reconsidered and brought into conformity with constitutional and international fair-trial guarantees. Moreover, any security measures must be narrowly defined and subject to independent judicial oversight.
Non payment of wages by channels to media workers is serious issue. Media houses owe it to workers to regularly pay wages. Info ministry, PEMRA, Media house owners & workers reps must sit together & talk. Parliament, even if rendered weak, should also play role.

SAARC failed because of problems on both sides: Pakistan insisted on putting Kashmir front & centre, India refusing to accept China as a neighboring bordering country
Well, @ShashiTharoor should know why SAARC failed? At 2014 SAARC Summit in Nepal, three members (Nepal, Maldives & Pakistan) said that China's observer status should be upgraded to full member. India, for obvious reasons did not accept this since it would no longer be the Big Daddy in south Asia. Then, in 2016, SAARC summit was in Pakistan & Uri also happened. Gave India perfect reason to not go to the summit & that for India was end of SAARC. India moved to BIMSTEC & @DrSJaishankar aligned India's Act East Policy with US' Indo Pacific strategy - which Trump has ended by going to its original name of US Pacific Command!
