The first is a modern construct. The second is not. I am talking about the Greek text of 1 Cor 12. The Greek word μέλος (melos) occurs 13 times in 1 Corinthians 12. @mattdabbs @SuitSheep @servantofyh @PlumblineFaith

Hey, @PlumblineFaith Could I get your quick take on this? It seems that we are just using words and importing different meanings to them. Genuinely curious if I am a making my point clearly.

@servantofyh just blocked me because I used Grok to give him a neutral assessment of my assertion and his disagreement. So I cannot respond to his question or anything in this string. Very 4th C. church of him! @PlumblineFaith @SuitSheep @mattdabbs @JoeclarkPhd @PeterCaliexile

Here is the string. He said I dodged his question. He is right. I thought he already knew the answer. xitter.cf/servantofyh/status/210…

BTW, the text is silent on whether Paul was handing out membership cards, but it seems unlikely.

If you want a response to a question you asked me in that string, you will have to ask again. @PlumblineFaith @SuitSheep @mattdabbs @JoeclarkPhd @PeterCaliexile xitter.cf/ElonsonBack/status/210…
1 Cor 12 defines "church membership." A meal and mutual edification accomplish it.

@Grok, Does 1 Cor 12 define "church membership" if we understand the word "church" as a translation of "ekklesia" and "member" and "membership" the way Paul uses them in that chapter? For Paul, is the "body of Christ" a metaphor for the ekklesia?

Wow. So cool.
Some melodies aren’t just meant to be heard, they can be experienced visually, too. Pachelbel’s “Canon in D” offers a captivating blend of music and visual beauty.

Model A is the NT pattern of eating meals together and having a time of mutual edification. Model C is liturgical worship service in a basilica controlled by a monarchical bishop or priest giving a homily. The prevalence of each plotted over time together with Church Unity.

When I listened to "Take this Job and Shove It" I finally understood how dialectical materialism fuels the inevitable class consciousness of the proletariat.

Wow. Did they change anything?
In 1989, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School convened a meeting with a group of pastors and basically asked them to tell the seminary what was wrong with seminaries. And I have the notes! The TEDS faculty involved included Robert Coleman, John Feinberg, Wayne Grudem, Walter Kaiser, Douglas Moo, Tom Nettles, John Woodbridge, and others. Some of what the pastors said in those ten pages of notes: • Seminaries were strong on theology but weak on preparing people for the realities of pastoral leadership. • Students needed mentoring and significant relationships with practicing pastors. • Leadership, conflict, people skills, and developing vision weren't adequately taught. • Students needed substantial ministry experience while still in seminary. • Practicing pastors should help shape the curriculum. • “A large segment of seminary education would be better done in a church.” • “The church should feed the seminary and the seminary feed the church.” Thirty-seven years later, it's remarkable how contemporary the conversation sounds. I'm going to write a whole article about this. There's a lot here for those of us thinking about the future of theological education. And I can't tell you how encouraging it was to read these notes as we think about what we're doing at Talbot in 2026. So much of what these pastors were calling for—deeper church-seminary partnership, mentoring, ministry formation, and theological education happening closer to the local church—is core to what we're doing at Talbot today.

I asked Chat GPT about the differences between biblical Ekklesia & modern-day Western church. The response [below] was devastating to the commonly-held belief that modern-day institutional church aligns with the biblical mandate & model. Read it 👇 chatgpt.com/share/6a3a5662-d…
