Genuinely think the backlash against this is making perfect the enemy of good. Saw these breathalyzers in action at the exit of EP and young people queuing up to make sure they were safe to drive. Did it myself. Thought it brought great awareness.

😲 Seems very short sighted 👇.
In an age of disinformation and nasty social media algorithms, we need quality media more than ever.
Without European public sector media, we are in the hands of Musk and Zuckerberg 🇺🇸.

I’ve always felt desperately sorry for Monica Coghlan. Used by Archer and the papers, humiliated by the courts, then dead before his lies were exposed. A victim of the whole rotten machine.

I note that politicians and journalists have been falling over themselves in praise of Lord Jeffrey Archer who has died aged 86. I don’t share that view.
Back in 1987 Archer sued the Daily Star for libel after they reported he had paid for sex with a prostitute.
Thanks to his lies in the witness box he was awarded £500K in damages, a record at the time. Actually the paper was right he had had paid £6K for her services.
The editor, a talented Aussie called Lloyd Turner who had done a great job for the paper, was fired by the idiot owner who preferred to believe a politician than his own staff.
That verdict left Turner, according to his wife, a broken man, and he died five years later at 57.
So, he never had the pleasure, some six years later, of seeing Archer, being jailed for perjuring himself and forced to hand back the £500K.
Archer’s lies destroyed Turner’s career and hurried the end of his life.
Disgracefully, that story has been ignored by the good and great in the hagiographies.

If it was Gavin Robinson, and it now looks like it was, meeting Bryson at the Plough in Hillsborough, why was the PSNI, MI5, Special branch facilitating this meeting ? What was the cost to the public ? Surely this is not normal behavior
Cant believe this. Poor Colin ❤️
Brilliant photographer. Brilliant, easy going, funny and so talented.
Just a few months ago we literally chased a * high profile stalker around Tullamore. Such fun. He was a legend

bryson thought he would kick off "culture war" riots in Drumcree by forcing an orange order parade down garvaghy road.

Strong piece.
The point about “mob rule” is particularly sharp — you can’t condemn it when it suits you, then celebrate it when it delivers the outcome you want.
And an important reminder: Protestantism is not Orangeism. The Orange Order does not speak for all Protestants.

RIP, Esther Rantzen. Famous for, among many many many things, that incredible clip of Nicholas Winton, the man who saved 669 children in World War II, keeping it secret for 50 years, until his wife found the scrapbook documenting it.
Sylvia, from Hungary but living on the South Terrace in Cork - managed to unblock at least six drains this morning - using an old brush handle and a bin bag. She told us she does it every few weeks and has been for five years or so.

This is a significant intervention from An #Taoiseach... says that there is "...no need for a parade to go down the #GarvaghyRoad." He also puts the current impasse and problems in a proper context. #Drumcree

Update: A roundup of where we sit so far tonight in Garvaghy / Drumcree from @AllisonMorris1
We have a live blog running over on @BelTel, you can see my tweets and our other team members out on the ground at different locations.

This is such a Dublin-centric reading of Drumcree. This isn’t simply a SF issue, and the people of the Garvaghy Road aren’t props in some SF political strategy.
There’s a community there with its own voice, its own history & very real memories of what happened there in the 90s

Rossnowlagh goes off without a hitch every year. Ditto the vast bulk of parades north of the border, too.
Replying to @mickthehack
Many are making the point if Orangemen are prohibited from walking down the Garvaghy road what does that say about their rights in a united Ireland

This is truly heartbreaking 💔
Marie-Therese Murray protests on Garvaghy Rd. She holds a photo of her 12 yr-old son Darren, who was knocked down and killed 30 years ago after being chased by loyalists. She rarely speaks about her loss but felt she had to protest today for “next generation” @IrishTimes
