Large retrospective trial out of #Oxford sheds light on #mRNA #vaccine safety and effectiveness in kids in the UK immunisation registry. #mRNA vaccines are both safe and effective in kids. nature.com/articles/s41467-0… 🚨99% of vaccines were #Pfizer mRNA vaccines, the rest were Moderna. A very small percentage(0.3%) were the astra zeneca adenovirus vaccine. 🚨12 outcomes (including Myocarditis, epilepsy, appendicitis, #GBS) measured at 6 weeks post vaccination, and in unvaccinated and vaccinated children post #COVID infection. 🚨5.1 million children aged 5-17 ,so very large case series. ➡️12-17 age group( 3.3 million): 🚨Risk of myocarditis 3/million (nil with Moderna vaccine) 🚨Risk of seizure 3/million (mostly in known epileptics) 🚨Risk of demyelination (4 cases/million, only occurred in boys) 🚨#Moderna vaccine was safest: ‘we did not find an increased risk of myocarditis following vaccination with the Moderna vaccine in adolescents, as some previous studies have reported. ‘ 🚨#COVID infection in the unvaccinated resulted in worse outcomes than in vaccinated kids. ‘We also observed increased risks of hospitalisation with myocarditis, ITP and epilepsy in the 1-42 days following SARS-CoV-2 infection in adolescents who had not been vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to infection’ 🚨The Astra-Zeneca vaccine had the highest rate of side-effects, but was only given to 0.3% of kids. (Seizures, 705/mil, appendicitis 512/million). The #adenovirus vector vaccines are probably unsafe in kids. ➡️5-11 (1.8 million children) 🚨#mRNA vaccines safe: ‘In children aged 5–11 years, we did not observe an increased risk of any of the pre-specified outcomes in the 1–42 days following any dose COVID-19 vaccine with BNT162b2, mRNA-1273 or ChAdOX1’ 🚨mRNA vaccines effective: ‘In children aged 5-11 years who had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine before the date that their positive SARS-CoV-2 test was recorded, we did not observe increased risks of any of the pre-specified outcomes in the 1–42 days following SARS-CoV-2 infection.
