Labour clearly has a problem with young people. Lower minimum wage for young people. Nothing for renters. Banker shares soar. Climate vandalism.

Patrick Stewart was a passionate defender of women's rights and spoke up tirelessly about domestic abuse, after witnessing his dad beating his mum when he was little. If there's an afterlife, I hope she's giving him a huge hug right now. She brought up the very best type of man❤️

Spoke recently at conference on gambling & suicide, organised by @GambleWithLives. Key issue: •if gambling is promoted, it will ⬆️ •if any risk factor increases, suicide will ⬆️ (as with alcohol) •therefore anything that promotes even “responsible” gambling will cost lives.

We've waited patiently for a plan to end neoliberalism. We won't wait anymore. We need rent controls We need a wealth tax We need *serious* cuts to energy bills Instead it's a few pence off gherkins & a payout which the experts say won't touch the sides on energy bills.

in a move completely recognisable to anyone who works in VAWG, an alleged perp has threatened to kill himself if he is investigated & the allegations are public. that's his decision. women need justice & reporting is in the public interest to encourage other young women to report
Celebrity claims he will 'kill himself' if allegations of 'inappropriate and exploitative sexual activities with a large number of girls and young women' are published, High Court hears trib.al/yMsblvU

Today’s budget looks like being worse for our future and the young than even anything Starmer came up with. A budget based on approval of mass new oil drilling is a betrayal of our future.
EXCL: The giant Rosebank oilfield can be approved without breaching the UK’s emission targets, according to government insiders, in a boost to those in the cabinet who are pushing for it to be given the go-ahead. Sources also say the Treasury has already accounted for billions of pounds’ worth of tax revenue from Rosebank and so would be faced with a shortfall should it be rejected. I wish more people understood that disability is universal. You will experience disability at some point in your life, whether from accident, illness, old age, or even temporary disability. Please advocate for accessibility because it literally benefits everyone.

Healey should put a cap on MPs expense claims. No more £45k water bills. Let’s see a bit of housekeeping done in parliament. Allow claims but ensure they fit with the public expenditure. Anything above they pay out of their own pocket. Bring some trust back into Parliament.

Orbán gone. The Bolsonaros gone. Vucic gone. Netanyahu so desperate to avoid facing the criminal courts of his country if he loses the upcoming election that he's trying to incite a nuclear war. Americans can do their part to stem the toxic tide of global fascism on November 3.
BREAKING: Putin just lost another ally in Europe, and people are celebrating in the streets. Aleksandar Vucic, Serbia’s authoritarian leader and close ally of Trump and Putin, has officially conceded defeat in a historic snap parliamentary election. The student-led opposition movement has won, ending more than a decade of Vucic’s grip on power. Voter turnout reached nearly 70%, the highest since the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1992.

PETITION STARTED BY LEAH’S PARENTS - please sign and share 🙏 Our daughter Leah Croucher went missing on 15 February 2019, walking to work. Her body was found three and a half years later, in the loft of a house half a mile from our family home. The man who killed her, Neil Maxwell, was a convicted sex offender with a history of serious offending going back to 1998. Months before Leah disappeared, he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman and was sentenced to a Community Order, not prison. The Probation Service wrongly classified him as medium risk instead of high risk. He then missed a number of Probation appointments, and a police officer raised concerns about his lack of communication just weeks before Leah went missing. He evaded arrest for six months. During that time, he murdered Leah and took his own life. The Coroner ruled that Leah was unlawfully killed, and that failures by the Police and Probation Service in monitoring Maxwell "may have played a part" in her death. That's why we, Leah's parents, are calling for Leah's Law: a mandatory minimum prison sentence for anyone convicted of a third sexual offence.  Mandatory minimums already exist for domestic burglary and Class A drug trafficking. There's no justifiable reason sexual offending should be treated more leniently. By a third conviction, it is self-evident that the offender has not been sufficiently deterred from further offending. Where a case falls below that threshold, we are calling for a District Judge to oversee sentencing in all repeat sexual offence cases, so a decision like the one that let Maxwell walk free can never be made again. This would have ensured he had no opportunity to kill Leah, and that the risk he presented on his release would have been vastly reduced. Sign for Leah, and for every family this could still protect. change.org/p/leah-s-law-mand…

Almost 6 million people have watched the interview with @ZelenskyyUa in just 3 days! A conversation I will never forget. He spoke in Ukrainian, we both had ear pieces in with human translators in a room next door, and we translated what he said into English afterwards.
What do you say to your family when you don’t know if you’ll ever see them again? In February 2022, he told his wife and children the war had begun. Then he left as Russian forces advanced towards Kyiv, unsure what the coming hours would bring. This is President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Before politics, he built a successful career in Ukrainian television as a writer, producer and performer, even portraying a president on screen. In 2019, he was elected President of Ukraine. Three years later, Russia launched its full-scale invasion. Sitting down with him was surreal and an enormous responsibility. It was a rare chance to hear his account of the first hours of the war and the decisions that followed. We discussed things like: How he found out Russia had invaded. Why he refused an offer to evacuate Kyiv. The 64km Russian military convoy advancing towards the capital. How Russian forces tried to capture a key airport. His account of discovering hundreds of bodies after Russian occupation. What he believes it will take to end the war. But I also wanted to understand how he’d been coping. One of my first questions was simply, “How are you doing?” His answer was: “It’s hard.” He spoke about meeting parents whose children had been killed. Some, he explained, simply ask him for a hug. And as he spoke, there were tears in his eyes. Whatever your views on the war or the decisions made by those involved, this is a rare opportunity to hear his account of events that have changed millions of lives. Because behind every map, every headline and every political decision, there are real people. Out now on all platforms ❤️👊🏾 (President Zelenskyy was recorded in Ukrainian and dubbed in English.)

Exactly this. I know a family who might not have £1 the day before payday and a tenner is a massive chunk out of their budget. Not being preachy here, but a lot of people don’t understand the levels of real poverty in this country.
I hate the sort of people who are like “yeah but it only costs …” no mate, I don’t care if it’s £10 or £100 not everyone has it to spare 🤦🏻‍♀️

All this prepping talk from Government is an admittance of total State & Political failure that they cannot keep us safe. They know they have no control over our water & energy companies whose incompetence is complete through their greed. So the political class pass all this responsibility & failure onto the individual. "Stock up because we have failed"

went to visit a friend who’s a ceramicist and works in a studio with no phone signal in a tiny yorkshire village. he doesn’t listen to podcasts or music, only occasionally uses the radio, and when I asked him what he thinks about all day he just said “well, pots mostly”

Just like the old East India Company, these robber baron companies, presided over as they are by unaccountable oligarchs, are more powerful than Sovereign states. They have contempt for us.

We’re teenage girls fighting to ban the use of school uniform in porn. Why have you left it up to us? No one should have to feel nervous about walking to school in clothes designed for children. It’s time for law to end the sexualisation of minors theguardian.com/commentisfre…
