If there’s one plea I could make ahead of GCSE results day tomorrow, it’s in the way the media and other commentators talk about GCSE grades. Grades 1-3 are not fails. Us or Xs are. Anyone with a 1-3 HAS GOT A GCSE. And for some of those kiddos, a 1 or a 2 or 3 can be a phenomenal result that they deserve to be proud of. Let’s be a bit more responsible in our language.

Far too many women have been on the receiving end of harassment, abuse and violence for far too long. With violence against women and girls declared a ‘National Emergency’, we need our male allies to stand up and call out troubling behaviour when they see it. #JustDont – at Yorkshire and The Humber, England

When it comes to reducing the content in the science specification, an important point is that: Every item currently in the spec can be justified in terms of its inclusion. What we need is a coherent set of principles that explains what items should be prioritised over others. What characteristics dictate the items that stay, and the items that go? How do we rank and balance those characteristics? How do we "score" individual items to establish what's included? Given that everything is important and worthy to someone, how do we make sure we only include that which is important and worthy to the greatest number? We don't have good, shared, or coherent answers to these questions, and because of that any science curriculum reform is doomed to repeat the same mistakes as we have made in the past. @UKLabour

Our brilliant technician has excelled himself again. This time turning a pack Poundland baubles into this beautiful pendulum wave! The baubles were filled with sand to weight them. We then put our Y13 students in charge of calculating the required lengths. @ChatPhysics 😍

The power of the visualiser 😍
My visualiser, a thread: 1. I’ve been a teacher of English for 18 years. Yesterday, I taught my last year 11 lesson of this academic year. I can honestly say I think my teaching is better now than it’s ever been, thanks to my visualiser.

I don’t know Lee Hill personally but have always enjoyed reading this tweets. What has happened to him today is absolutely scandalous. What kind of example is this to set the children in our care? My heart goes out to him. #StandWithLee

Reading about ‘Summer catch-up’ for children. I tell you what, if they’re allowed to, the summer catch-up that they need is going to the beach, playing with their friends and generally having a bit of normality. That’s the catch up that should be funded.
