But the truth is that these trends are cyclical and tend to peak again and again every 12-15 years.

It was a lot of pleasure to read and review @algo_luca's book Zero to Production in Rust: preslav.me/2022/10/12/book-r… While I am likely not going to become the best Rust developer ever, I did learn a ton of new stuff that can contribute to my day-to-day work. Totally recommended!

What fraction of programs actually require zero-cost abstractions and the lack of non-deterministic GC pauses? I do value memory safety. But that's why I reach for tools like Go when performance matters in a way Python can't satisfy.

Splitting a big function into smaller ones doesn't necessarily make your system easier to understand *as a whole*: each function is locally simpler, but you have to study how they interact to see the overall functionality. Don't be afraid to leave some big functions big.

Question: What’s the most efficient way to store JSON in the URL’s query string? The most efficient option I’ve found: JSONCrush. github.com/KilledByAPixel/JS… Anyone seen something better?

To countless people in the reddit comment section: No, somebody implementing their own language after they've failed to change an existing one, isn't throwing a tantrum. Programming languages are tools. If they don't work for you, switch. If no alternative exists, invent one.

I have hardly ever seen an organization evolve past Scrum once they’ve adopted it. It seems to be a black hole that sucks up all agility. Once you cross the event horizon, you can never escape. It is not “training wheels.”

Years of trying to be “taken seriously” has led to many PHP developers thinking almost entirely “negatively” about code rather than “positively”. Hyper-focusing on “what can I remove so my users don’t hurt themselves?” vs. “what can I add to empower users to be amazing?”
