Denzel is right that people seem increasingly incapable of experience: Optimization as a variant on optionality seems to lack content; you're not any more interesting just because you're more you; worse, if hedonism converges on Aella, it's trash--every move you make traps you in the same corner where you started. I doubt, however, that biochemical safety is the issue. Maybe the problem is the realization is that whereas a biochemical engineer can worry about your body & come up with some kind of power, there's nothing you yourself can do that will ever amount to knowledge. Positivism seems to have won the battle to kill the soul, so your body is up for grabs: You're your neurochemistry & it can be hacked. The next frontier may therefore be mood control. If you can experience yourself as the result of your experimentation, you're both puppet & pulling strings. You can move up from rat in the race to rat designing the race.
