The Windrush Scandal broke in 2018. A change in policy had meant 1000s of people who had spent most of their lives in Britain were being wrongly treated as illegal immigrants. Chris Hayibor, a Windrush compensation scheme claimant, explains his story. It has been ten years since the Home Office admitted they made a mistake, and twenty years since he has been fighting his case. The scandal became associated with people from the Caribbean. But people from across the world, including Africa and South Asia, were affected too. They are still seeking justice. My friends, you crossed oceans and helped build nations. You sent money home and taught your children to love a country some had never seen. That love must never end with one generation. We are moving to extend citizenship by descent to the great-grandchildren of Bajans. They, too, must have the choice to come home. So bring the children. Bring the grandchildren. Let them walk where their grandparents walked. Let them feel the love behind the stories. To our family in Toronto and across the world, you are ours. We are yours. There will always be a place for you here. One people. One Barbados. Bajan to the bone.

Large crowds have turned out in central London at a vigil for the former Cambridge University professor Jason Arday - who was found dead last week. Almost 100,000 people have now signed a petition drawn up by the Good Law project calling for an immediate public inquiry. They claimed his death was the direct result of the sustained press harrassment which Mr Arday was subjected to - and said racism lay at the heart of the story.

#WindrushDay Anniversary, June 22nd 1948 - 22nd June 2026. The Great British colonial years ended after almost 400 years of British rule of overseas shores and, by default, broadened the British family of Subjects from our four nations towards an entire UK cohort of colonies who were meant to be equal in status as Citizens & Subject of the Empire, as many nations entered a new relationship with our UK as members of the British Commonwealth. What followed was the advent of migration from the colonies and early years' former colonies to the Mother nation, post-WW2, to help regenerate our post-war Britain. Yet there were systemic lapses and failures in paper trails and the evidencing of rights for the freely landed. As our UK's interests transitioned towards the EU in the early 1970s, much of the historical significance and contributions of the Windrush years were dissolved into yet another part of forgotten history. Although the Windrush years started with the docking of the HMT Windrush at Tilbury, it was the beginning of a new chapter of Colonial and early Commonwealth migration. The Windrush legacy and the scandal that followed did not end with the family of Caribbean nations, it encompassed and impacted many Commonwealth nations into the early 1970s and late 1980s. The legacy of Windrush South Asia and Windrush Africa as a follow-on from the arrival of British Subjects from the British Caribbean islands on 22nd June 1948, is a history sewn within a greater history of our nation. The key questions that followed are the right to belong, integration and historical acknowledgement. As many voices are getting heard, there are many other voices dying in the backwaters of isolation and exclusion, and this has been continuing for some 50 years on into the 21st Century. This shared legacy belongs to all of us; it is a chapter of British history that has still been sidelined to a few pages of representation in what has shaped our destiny and will progress our nation in the years to come. - Neil Mukherjee. @ppvernon @Anthony59436242 @CliveFoster3 @GlendaCaesar @DefendWindrush @ShabanaMahmood

Members of the Windrush generation are still fighting for justice after they were wrongly accused of living in the UK illegally. One of them is Hannah Dankwa, who was incorrectly stopped from entering the UK. After reports by Channel 4 News, the government has finally reversed the decision to block her.
