‼️Access to Justice is in Crisis ‼️
The administration of our Legal Aid system is creating an ever decreasing circle of legal professionals who can provide their advice & representation to citizens & serve the interests of our justice system.
We are calling on the Department of Justice to recognise the access to justice crisis and act with urgency to address it.
This starts with, as a minimum, action on crippling payment delays for Legal Aid work and fees which have remained static since 2005.

Which will only work if the accused who cannot represent him or herself can access a lawyer to represent them. Investment in #legalaid is essential as there aren’t enough lawyers to defend now and the talent drain to other work is speeding up. #DefendLegalAid

The attack on legal aid over the last 14 years was an attack on working class communities.

Our branch represents workers from across the legal sector and today we begin our campaign to unionise crime legal workers for the much needed fight back to improve working conditions. Join the union today!
Only a properly unionised workforce has the ability to make the Government more receptive to reasonable requests for increased #legalaid funding, which will lead to better pay and conditions overall.
