CrimeLine protects you from hidden threats. Prompt injection involves placing hidden text inside documents; you cannot see it, but an AI tool can. This text could turn the AI against you by inserting malicious instructions that lead to erroneous outputs. We have provided tools to help you mitigate this risk. crimeline.co.uk

Some changes to report. First, a cosmetic change: ASK & DocAssist are now available from the same interface. Second: This morning we moved to UK Data Residency (instead of EU). This aligns with emerging government policy, as we'll explain in Monday's CrimeLine Alert. Finally, we have retired 'Matter File' as it wasn't widely used and didn't sit well with common platform/CCDCS document storage. As always, my email is open, so let me know if you have any comments on this or indeed any other aspect of our offering. AK

The advent of quantum computing poses a significant threat to current cryptographic systems. Those relying on asymmetric encryption, such as RSA and ECC, could be rendered obsolete by quantum algorithms such as Shor’s algorithm. This raises concerns about the ‘harvest now, decrypt later’ (HNDL) threat, where encrypted data is collected today with the intent to decrypt it once quantum capabilities become available. This report, jointly developed by Europol and UC3M within the framework of the Advisory Group Research and Development, assesses the technical feasibility and criminal implications of the HNDL threat. It examines motivations, identifies at-risk data and stakeholders, and outlines realistic scenarios where law enforcement may encounter this technique over time. crimeline.co.uk/harvest-now-…

New on CrimeLine: Hoxha & Others [2026] UKUT 378 IAC. In a reported decision, the Upper Tribunal reaffirmed the Tanveer Ahmed approach to document reliability for all appeals and all documents in proceedings, citing the rapid development of AI to generate and manipulate documents. It observed that AI is capable of posing an existential threat to the integrity of the immigration appeal system, while noting that suspected use of a generative AI tool is not by itself an indication of fraud. Judges must be alert to the greater challenges AI presents. Full case note and judgment: crimeline.co.uk/hoxha-fraudu…
