Nine months ago, this did not exist.
Today, India can build its own Fast Steering Mirror. QOSMIC’s FSM has cleared thermal vacuum and vibration qualification, both on the first attempt.
The FSM is the fine-pointing core of every optical link: satellite to ground, satellite to satellite, ground to ground. It holds a laser locked on target while everything around it moves, making hundreds of tiny corrections every second.
To put that precision in perspective: lay a grid over Rashtrapati Bhavan. From 500 km above your head, our FSM is designed to point a laser link at any single point on it.
Only two or three suppliers worldwide build this class of hardware. So we built ours.
From nothing to space-qualified in under a year.
Built to survive launch. Now it waits for one 👀

Today, we are launching a preview of our new model, Mistral Large 4 (ML4), aka le Chonk 🐈.
ML4 is a 1T-parameter model with 49B active parameters, trained natively with multimodal capabilities.
It is at the frontier of open models, and by far the strongest open-weight model from the US or Europe.
The RL run behind this preview is still in flight and shows no sign of saturation -- we will release a final version before the end of the month along with the weights of the model.
🧵

Meet Mistral Large 4, aka Le Chonk.
• 1T parameters, natively multimodal. 49B active.
It is the best open weights model from US or Europe on aggregated benchmarks.
• State-of-the-art on critical workloads, including cyber defense, manufacturing and finance and it surpasses closed frontier models on visual grounding.
• Forged in Europe end-to-end and is deployable from Europe via our own Mistral Cloud infrastructure.
• Available to all via API today. Working with cybersecurity partners privately.
Open weights release end of October.
what's more worth sponsoring?
- an overhyped linux distro that doesn't run anything mission critical
- a javascript runtime that runs half of the internet including likely their infra

I wouldn't bank your career on Jevon's paradox
Demand for SWE as a skill can increase. But the value of that skill can still go down.
IE a lot of people write. Being a good writer is useful. Very few people make tons of money just being a "writer".

My article about NUMA in Linux is out.
NUMA is very easy to ignore when you're developing. Your local machine probably doesn't have it, and Linux handles it transparently on your server, so you may never notice, but your performance isn't optimal, especially with memory-intensive applications.
You can probably go your whole career without knowing about NUMA and be perfectly fine. But if you're the kind of person who wants to squeeze out every last drop of performance, or who just really wants to know how everything works, this is an introduction to how NUMA works inside Linux.

BREAKING: For the first time in history, a space launch from continental Europe has successfully reached orbit.
@isaraerospace, the German space company, launched its Spectrum rocket from Andøya Spaceport in Norway today.

No DLI beneficiary should be allowed to be acquired by foreign companies. Gov is subsidizing the R&D cost to develop Indian owned IP. If the plan is to get subsidy then flip it to foreign companies then raise only pvt money. it's like GOI subsidizing Infineon's R&D.

BEML Concall:
1. TBM designing is underway, working on STS crane.
2. Carbody shell is being completed for B28 trainset.
3. India would need at least 600 trains for upcoming seven HSR corridors.
4. Already working on 350 kph B35.
5. B28/35 IP will be owned by India.

I have posted two updates about RADDBG on Linux, and all I can say is that, while the majority of responses have been very positive, the rest make it obvious why it has taken so long for the Linux ecosystem to provide a ~viable consumer desktop experience (for Windows to decay so much that there is not really any alternative).
There is no coherency in the design of the platform. There is no sane team calling the shots, so the user base spends their time bikeshedding over what should be trivialities. Everybody has an opinion about everything. Window managers (X11? Wayland? X11 on Wayland?), to package managers, to libc versions, to the right folder to use for X/Y/Z, to which shell interpreter to use, to how to ask the user for a file path (libportal? zenity?), to how to show the user a trivial message box, and so on. And this is just the beginning—the trivial stuff that most people reading this will get, without needing a ton of extra context.
If your users or developers are debating about any of this, YOU FAILED. The platform SUCKS. It will only succeed when centralized teams (e.g. shipping hardware using the Linux ecosystem) steer the ship and make decisions. Then, people write to that, and that becomes the actual standard.

I think a more precise description is non-lexical lifetimes (NLL). The named variables have lexical scope, but lifetimes can be more granular, and this has gradually evolved over time: original borrow checker (2006) -> NLL (2018) -> Polonius (2026?).

This was a fantastic question to explore with @indiaBUILDwiki - turns out the tech-stack unlock needed is at multiple levels.
We're quite some distance from being able to do this but we've made starts at multiple places in the tech tree. The wiki has populated all the node stubs for now.
govt could have/should have done this

idk but at some point, you have to ensure accountability, starting from the top. also, make the changes in NTA and communicate it properly to the stakeholders. our exam system is a huge mess, and this is not limited to neet

IMHO you lose the right to complain about your IP being stolen/distilled if your IP is built on the stolen collective IP of humanity.

You see, what fascinates me about “remember to not smile” is that he needs his pain to be witnessed. He suffers at 4am, okay, fine, many people suffer. But then, immediately, he makes a slide! He gathers the entire company! He writes an article! Is it not clear what is happening here? Suffering without an audience simply does not count. This is ideology at its purest.
We see here the old Protestant trick in its Silicon Valley form: success alone is vulgar, almost pornographic. My god, you cannot simply succeed. It must first be purified through unnecessary suffering. So you get this obscene reversal where pain stops being a cost of the product, and instead becomes the product itself. The developer documentation is, how do you say, merely the byproduct, the excrement of the true production, which is the suffering. As Hegel already knew, and here I think even Lacan would agree, although perhaps not, the true obsession is always with deserving success.
Here I must tell you this old joke from Soviet Union. A worker says: "we pretend to work, they pretend to pay us.” Now here it is inverted, which I claim is much worse. They are paid perfectly well, wonderfully well, and so they must pretend to suffer. Do you see the perfect madness of this?
And now, the ultimate obscenity. Imagine the company succeeds while everyone leaves at 5pm. Catastrophe! Total ontological catastrophe! In this worldview, I am tempted to say, failure would almost come as a relief. Failure means you simply did not suffer enough, go back, suffer more. But success at 5pm? This cannot be explained.
So when he says "remember to not smile," this is a desperate command of the superego. If you smile, we will all discover the pain was never necessary.

Monumental’s robots have now built the brickwork for a 100 (!) homes, a school, a hotel, a community center, and hundreds of meters of Amsterdam's canal walls. Our pace is compounding: half of everything we've ever delivered went up in the last three months (!!!)
